Staff Evacuated From Mississippi Casino Surrounded in Storm Cristobal Floodwaters

Approximately 100 staff were evacuated from the Silver Slipper Casino in Bay St Louis, Mississippi, as floodwaters from Tropical Storm Cristobal surrounded the venue on June 7, according to local news reports.

Storm surge and flooding were reported in several parts of Mississippi as the storm made landfall.

The National Hurricane Center had issued a storm-surge warning from the mouth of the Mississippi River to Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and warned that tropical storm-force winds were expected along the northern Gulf Coast from central Louisiana to the western Florida Panhandle. A tropical storm warning was in effect for the area.

However the storm was later expected to weaken as it passed over southeastern Louisiana, the center said.

The first of these videos, filmed by Brittany Bousquet, shows the entrance to the casino and nearby car park inundated with water. Later footage shows staff being transported from the venue on what Bousquet said was a fire department truck. Credit: Brittany Bousquet via Storyful
