Stafford County Sheriff’s Office: Man initiates pursuit with deputies

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A wanted suspect failed to comply with a traffic stop in Stafford County on Sunday night, initiating a pursuit with deputies that led to his arrest.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said a deputy saw a red Toyota Scion run a stop sign as it turned onto westbound Garrisonville Road. The officer followed the car and tried to initiate a traffic stop on Rocky Way Drive.

Instead of complying, SCSO says the suspect sped up to 60 mph in the residential area, initiating a pursuit.

The pursuit paused at the intersection of Rocky Way Drive and Larkwood Court when the suspect careened into a snow-filled ditch. The driver was able to drive out of the ditch, however, and continued through the subdivision.

The suspect turned into a cul-de-sac and found himself with nowhere else to go.

The pursuit lasted four minutes and covered one and a half miles, according to police.

Deputies negotiated for an hour before the suspect finally surrendered and was taken into custody. He was identified as Allen Stone, 38, of King George.

Stone was wanted for contempt of court in Prince William County and deputies found suspected controlled substances in his car. He was served the outstanding warrant and also charged with felony eluding, driving under the influence of drugs, reckless driving and other related charges.

He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
