Stafford High football team defeats Valley Regional in Pequot

Oct. 30—Mark McLaughlin was a one-man wrecking crew on both sides of the ball for the Stafford/East Windsor/Somers co-op football team Friday.

The senior quarterback/defensive back accounted for 317 yards of offense and five touchdowns and added eight tackles, two for loss, as the Bulldogs topped host Valley Regional/Old Lyme 34-21 in Pequot League play.

"It's great to get back in the win column," Stafford coach Brian Mazzone said. "McLaughlin was a monster. We won the turnover battle and that was a huge difference. It was a physical game. I'm glad to have a bye."

McLaughlin ran the ball 27 times for 203 yards and three touchdowns and threw for 114 yards and two touchdowns for the Bulldogs (4-3). Connor Marchi and Logan Briggs each caught a touchdown pass.

Deangelo Jean-Pierre recovered a fumble in the end zone and caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from James Marzden for Valley Regional/Old Lyme (2-4).

Stafford hosts Rockville Friday.

HALL 35, GLASTONBURY 14. In Glastonbury, Elijah Salomons threw touchdown passes of three and 50 yards to lead the Warriors to a CCC Tier 1 victory.

Leo Perreira had touchdown runs of six and seven yards for the Warriors (7-0), who outscored Glastonbury 21-0 in the second half. Ryan Zydanowicz added a nine-yard rushing touchdown.

Jack Anglim threw touchdown passes of 17 and 44 yards for the Guardians (1-6), who visit New Britain Friday.
