When Randy Travis takes the stage next, the light may look a little darker.

"The stage has gone dim with the passing of Thom Roberts," Travis said Monday evening in a post on his Facebook page.

Roberts, 68, was killed Sunday evening by a single gunshot wound to the chest. He died on the front porch of the Howard Avenue home he shared with his wife, 72-year-old Christine Ann Roberts, in East Nashville.

Christine Roberts is now jailed on a charge of criminal homicide. She told investigators that she shot her husband because he cheated on her, police said in a statement.

Roberts was known as a skilled lighting technician, working decades in the business.

"Thom not only had a magical sense about lighting a stage; but, he had a quiet, charismatic presence that ignited your soul," Travis wrote. "Always willing, with a ‘can do’ and ‘happy to do it’ attitude."

Travis wrote fondly of Roberts.

"One would search a lifetime to find a kinder, gentler spirit. Thom was my friend and I loved him dearly," the singer said. "It certainly won’t be the same; and, I know I speak for the entire band and crew when I say the light that he truly created, in our hearts, will never be extinguished or forgotten."
