“The Legend of Georgia McBride”

The Bay Street Players continue a musical comedy by Tony Award-winning playwright Matthew Lopez, “The Legend of Georgia McBride,” at the State Theatre in Eustis. The show plays until Nov. 14.

The salvation of the play’s beleaguered Elvis impersonator hero, Casey, played by Simon Atkinson, turns out to be equipment already in his proverbial toolbox – sequins, makeup, and a highly developed skill in lip-syncing, along with a nice hip swivel. But Elvis’s appeal seems to be fading fast in the rundown Florida panhandle bar where Casey has been working. When his gig is replaced with a drag show, Casey switches gears to pay the bills and, in doing so, a star of sorts is born.

This production is led by the State Theatre’s resident Artistic Director Carlos Francisco Asse and features additional performances by Mitch Bozeman, Jordie Harris, Olivia Hern, Andrei Pemberton, and Roy Ster Seven.

Tickets range from $11 to $25 at eustisstatetheatre.org.
