Stagg High School graduate Jason Lee, a social media influencer and head of media and partnerships for Kanye West, and award-winning comedian Tiffany Haddish made a surprise appearance before Stagg students at an assembly on Friday, May 6.

The two appeared with the intent of providing hope and courage to students in the aftermath of the tragic death of Alycia Reynaga, the 15-year-old Stagg freshman and softball player, who was fatally stabbed on campus on April 18.

Reynaga's family attended the assembly and sat among her former classmates at Stagg stadium's bleachers.

Lee said he had wanted to return to Stagg on several occasions and acknowledge the tragic circumstances that lead to the coordination of the assembly with Stockton Unified School District, the city and school administration.

Stagg's 1,400 students went to their fourth period classes as usual, before teachers and staff guided them to the stadium where Lee and Haddish awaited.

Lee helped coordinate having 350 boxes of pizza delivered for the students and staff. Stagg staff passed microphones among the crowd for them to ask Lee and Haddish questions about school culture, safety, reaching out to administrators and occasional pop culture and social media commentary.

Lee later met in a more intimate setting with less than 10 students representing the student body to further chat about motivation, hope and inspiration.
