'Staggering downfall': Twitter reacts to IU football's rough season
The Indiana Hoosiers started the 2021 season with high hopes. The Purdue Boilermakers were trying to snap a small run of losing seasons.
The regular season ended with IU winless in Big Ten play and Purdue in strong bowl position. The Boilermakers beat the Hoosiers 44-7 to take the Old Oaken Bucket to West Lafayette.
Purdue view: Boilers have 8 wins, will go to a bowl
IU view: Rough season ends in rougher fashion
Here's how it played on social media.
I believe #iufb is the first team ranked in preseason Top 25 to finish with just two wins since 1971 UCLA team that began season No. 15 and finished 2-7-1.

The first #iufb team since 1969 to be a preseason top-25 team is about to go winless in conference play.

I love that the Big Ten's engineering school has a coach who's obsessed with designing gadget plays.

Some #iufb fans were wildly dreaming of a possible 10-win season.
Instead, it'll end with 10 losses.
A staggering freefall.— Matt Glenesk (@MattGlenesk) November 27, 2021
To start the season ranked & finish it with 10 losses (by an average of 23+ ppg) and no FBS wins is pretty impressive, actually.

Lose. Every. One.
IU will go winless in the B1G. 😬— Kyle Holderfield (@Coach_H_HHS) November 27, 2021
Pound for pound, this is Purdue's best season since the peak of the Tiller era, imo.
I know they won eight games in 2006-07, but felt like those seasons were basically all filler wins (MAC teams and mid/low-level Big Ten teams) with Painter at QB.— Derek Schultz (@Schultz975) November 27, 2021
