Stalking suspect dies in police chase after peeping in woman’s home, Michigan cops say

A man accused of stalking a woman died in a police chase after hitting a utility pole, Michigan police say.

Berkley cops went to a home in the Detroit suburb Monday night and spotted the suspect’s car leaving the area, police say. An officer tried to stop the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze, but the driver sped away, according to a news release.

The driver ran a red light and hit another vehicle, then smashed into a light pole in neighboring Southfield, police said. Officers pulled the 53-year-old suspect from the car and performed CPR before taking him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the other vehicle had minor injuries.

The suspect had a past relationship with the woman, who had filed a police complaint about him, Berkley Public Safety Director Matt Koehn told the Royal Oak Tribune.

Police say the man was peeping into the woman’s home through a window at about 10 p.m., WJBK reported.

“She saw him around the house looking in windows,” Koehn told the Royal Oak Tribune. “She had filed a complaint with us on him before and we were aware of him and had contact with him before.”

Police have not released the man’s identity.
