Feb. 27—SUMNER — Multiple deputies from the Oxford County Sheriff's Office were at the scene of a standoff Monday on Butterfield Road near the intersection of routes 140 and 219.

The suspect was reportedly barricaded at a residence, according to Oxford County Sheriff Christopher Wainwright.

The incident began Sunday evening, with officials asking the fire departments in Sumner and Canton to close the roads leading to the intersection. The roads reopened overnight, but officials returned to the scene Monday morning.

As of 1:15 p.m., the situation was contained, Wainwright said, but the roads would remain closed until the incident is resolved.

Schools were notified of the incident and buses will be rerouted, Wainwright said.
