Stanford QB Tanner McKee could be Day 3 option for Raiders
The Raiders are going to select a quarterback during the 2023 NFL Draft. That is a lock. But when they do so is still up in the air. There is still a decent chance that the Raiders will use the No. 7 pick on a quarterback should C.J. Stroud fall. But what if he doesn’t?
The front office has done a ton of work on quarterback prospects expected to be selected on Day 3. That list includes Jake Haener (Fresno State), Dorian Thompson-Robinson (UCLA), and Aidan O’Connell (Purdue). But one name that hasn’t been discussed enough is Stanford QB Tanner McKee.
In a recent article by ESPN and their NFL Draft insiders, they predicted the landing spots for all the top quarterbacks in the 2023 NFL Draft. They matched McKee with the Raiders on Day 3. Here are their thoughts on the pairing:
At 6-foot-6 and 231 pounds, McKee is a towering traditional pocket passer. He does have some mobility, but his game isn’t predicated on it. McKee has slightly above-average arm strength, good football instincts and scheme versatility, so I could see him developing in a Josh McDaniels-led offense as a backup option.
McKee does have the size and arm strength that Josh McDaniels typically likes in his quarterbacks. But does have the playmaking ability to be anything more than a backup in the NFL? That is the biggest question about him.
Expect McKee to be on the short list of quarterbacks the Raiders could consider after Round 1 as he does fit the offense well.
