Stanislaus candidate list has some tweaks after final deadline for Nov. 8 election

The Nov. 8 ballot in Stanislaus County took final shape Wednesday with the deadline for candidates to file.

They had until Friday, Aug. 12, if an incumbent is running and five extra days if that is not the case.

The ballot includes city councils, school boards and most other local posts. County offices were decided in the June primary. Voters in November also will decide on statewide offices, state and federal lawmakers and several ballot measures.

Candidates for city councils, school boards and irrigation boards are listed below. Those for fire, sewer, health care and other districts can be found on the county election office website, www.stanvote.gov.

City councils

Modesto: Eric Alvarez is unopposed in District 2, as is Nick Bavaro in District 4. Naramsen Goriel and Jeremiah Williams are vying in District 5.

Turlock: Incumbent Amy Bublak drew a challenge from former councilman Gil Esquer. Kevin Bixel and Chris Nichols are running in District 1. The District 3 candidates are Ryan Taylor, Kelly Higgins, Cassandra Abram and Ramin Odisho.

Ceres: Incumbent James Casey faces Todd Underwood in District 1. The District 2 race pits Rosalinda Vierra and Paula Redfern. The District 4 candidates are John Osgood, Daniel Martinez and David Carreon.

Oakdale: Mayor Cherilyn Bairos is unopposed. The two council seats drew Benjamin Amaral, Kayleigh Gilbert and incumbent Christopher Smith.

Riverbank: Incumbent Luis Uribe is unopposed in District 1, as is former council member Leanne Jones-Cruz in District 3.

Patterson: The mayoral candidates are Dominic Farinha, who is in the middle of a council term, and Michael Clauzel. Incumbent Alfred Parham is challenged by Jessica Romero in District B. Incumbent Cynthia Homen faces Carlos Roque in District D.

Newman: Mayor Casey Graham is unopposed, as are Shane Tomlinson and incumbent Scott Ball for two council seats.

Hughson: Mayor George Carr is unopposed. The two council seats drew Julie Ann Strain, Alan McFadon, Tyrel Voss, Randy Crooker and Heather Sigala.

Waterford: Charlie Goeken is unopposed for mayor. The candidates for two council seats are incumbent Elizabeth Talbott and Paris Stepp, Christine Harris and Steven Morrow.

School boards

Yosemite Community College District: Don Davis and Tyler Jackson are vying in Area 1. Area 2 incumbent Nancy Hinton is running against Antoinette Ryun. Area 4 incumbent Jenny Nicolau is unopposed.

Stanislaus County Board of Education: Area 1 incumbent Kim Rose is unopposed. Area 2 incumbent Alice Pollard is running against Debbie Barrera Martinez. Area 5 incumbent Chinyere Nnodim-Jack is unopposed.

Modesto City Schools: Area 1 incumbent Cindy Marks is running against Maria Magana. Area 3 incumbent Chad Brown is unopposed. Area 5 incumbent Charlene West is running against Jolene Daly. Area 7 incumbent Adolfo Lopez is unopposed.

Ceres Unified School District: Cynthia Ruiz is unopposed in Area 2. Area 3 incumbent Valli Wigt is running against Mariah Jaquez. Area 5 incumbent Lourdes Perez is unopposed, as is David McConnell in Area 6.

Turlock Unified School District: Area 2 incumbent Lori Carlson is running against Shenique Teixeira Boronda. Area 3 incumbent Kenneth Howenstine faces Paola Maldonado Padilla. Area 4 incumbent Mary Jackson is running against Jeff Nichols. Area 6 incumbent Jeffrey Cortinas is vying against Rupinder Singh Jagpal.

Chatom Union School District: All three candidates are unopposed: Rob Santos in Area 1, Alison Carvalho in Area 2 and Anthony Avila in Area 5.

Denair Unified School District: Billy Ray Myers and incumbent Crystal Sousa are unopposed for the two seats.

Empire Union School District: All three candidates are unopposed: Doug Bentley in Area 3, Gina Smith in Area 4 and Bob McDonough in Area 5.

Gratton School District: All three candidates are unopposed: incumbents Keith Coonce and Philip Wagner, along with Jessica Mora.

Hart-Ransom School District: All three candidates are unopposed: incumbent Sandy Riggins, along with Brett Azevedo and Luke Peters.

Hickman Community Charter District: Ryan Reece and incumbent Cassandra Shepherd are unopposed for the two seats.

Hughson Unified School District: All three incumbents are unopposed: Randee Harcrow in Area 2, Randall Heckman in Area 4 and Mark Foss in Area 5.

Keyes Union School District: All three incumbents are unopposed: Jimmy Emmons in Area 2, Jeff Reed in Area 3 and Wesley Greene in Area 5.

Knights Ferry Elementary School District: Incumbents Charles Birdsong and Troy Mangante filed for two of the three full terms up for election, a race that has closed without a third candidate. Incumbent Matt Dickens is unopposed for a short term.

Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District: Area 2 incumbent Paul Wallace faces Don Cabral. Area 5 incumbent Vernon Snodderly is running against Frank Rivas.

Oakdale Joint Unified School District: Michele Manuel and Clayton Schemper are running in Area 1. Diane Gilbert, Joshua Randol and Shirrelle Moore-Mmasi are the candidates in Area 4. Area 5 pits Lauren Dutch against Bill Duvall.

Paradise Elementary School District: Incumbents Manuel Furtado and Shawna Nunes are unopposed.

Patterson Joint Unified School District: Four incumbents are unopposed: Michele Bays in Area 2, Amanda Lozano in Area 4, Martha Blanco-Arechiga in Area 5 and Ryan Segoviano in Area 6. Dale Torres is unopposed for a short term in Area 7.

Riverbank Unified School District: Incumbents Diana Gonzalez in Area 3 and Elizabeth Meza in Area 4 are unopposed. DeLayne Coker and Katie Wedge are vying in Area 2.

Roberts Ferry Union School District: All three incumbents are unopposed: Marlene Erickson, Patricia Rogers and Jaime Burroughs.

Salida Union School District: All three incumbents are unopposed: Linda Brughelli in Area 1, Virginia Berry in Area 2 and Nanci Fox in Area 5.

Shiloh School District: The two seats drew incumbents Nicole Morris and Lindsay Meikle, along with George Avila and Shellie Quadros.

Stanislaus Union School District: Incumbents Michael Tognotti in Area 1 and Gricelda Garcia in Area 3 are unopposed. Area 5 drew no candidates.

Sylvan Union School District: Area 2 incumbent George Rawe is unopposed. Area 3 incumbent Christine Harvey faces Cassandra Gamez. Area 5 incumbent Cyndi Lindsey is running against Joni Griepp.

Valley Home Joint School District: Michael Hofmann is the only candidate for the three seats.

Waterford Unified School District: Janelle Santos is unopposed in Area 1, as are incumbents Sheila Collins in Area 3 and Vanessa Anderson in Area 5.

Irrigation boards

Modesto Irrigation District: Janice Keating and Frank Damrell are running in Division 2. Division 3 drew Robert Frobose and Nick Dokoozlian. Division 4 incumbent Stu Gilman faces John Boer and Brad Johnson.

Turlock Irrigation District: David Yonan and Wayne Zipser are running in Division 2. Incumbents Joe Alamo in Division 3 and Ron Macedo in Division 5 are unopposed.

Oakdale Irrigation District: All three incumbents are unopposed: Herman Doornenbal in Division 2, Tom Orvis in Division 3 and Brad DeBoer in Division 5.

Central California Irrigation District: Division 1 incumbent Kirk Jensen is unopposed in the Stanislaus County portion of the district.

Patterson Irrigation District: No candidates filed in Divisions 3 or 5.

West Stanislaus Irrigation District: Incumbents Justin Goubert in Division 3 and Kenneth Bays in Division 4 are unopposed. No one filed in Division 1.

Western Hills Water District: Four people are running for the three full terms: Theron Dale Ledford and incumbents John Frederick, Mark Kovich and Martin George Johnson. Incumbents Martin Gene Johnson and Julie Davis are unopposed for the two short terms
