Stanislaus deputies were watching for street racers. They report two boys over 100 mph
Two juveniles were arrested after a high-speed pursuit Friday night, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department reported.
It started at about 9 p.m. on West Main Street near Central Avenue, about four miles west of Turlock, Lt. Mario Moreno said by phone Saturday. The pursuit ended about 20 minutes later with the boys surrendering on Ruberto Street in west Modesto, he said.
No injuries were reported. The pursuit covered about 30 miles and topped 100 miles per hour, Moreno said. The specific streets and the boys’ ages were not available.
Deputies were taking part in an operation against street racing when they spotted the boys, Moreno said. The department has a policy against pursuing juveniles, but their ages were not known until after they were detained, he said.
Deputies recovered a loaded gun that was thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit, the lieutenant said.
The boys were booked into Juvenile Hall on charges that include reckless driving to evade police, wrong-way driving, resisting arrest and carrying a loaded and concealed firearm.
