Defense has led the Orestimba High baseball team to a 3-0 start in Southern League play.
In their recorded league games, they have allowed just two runs and scored 34. The pitching has been dominant and Evan Zapien is the latest to put together a great performance.
He pitched a five-inning complete game shutout against Waterford, striking out seven batters and allowing just one hit. The offense helped him out, scoring 14 runs in the March 22 matchup.
The fans noticed his performance, voting him The Bee’s Boys Player of the Week.
Zapien finished first after collecting 44% of the votes in the weekly poll. He came in ahead of baseball players Mason Baker (Turlock) and Robert McDaniel (Hughson), who finished in second and third.
