Stanislaus State ranks high for ‘best bang for buck.’ See what grads earn a few years later

Stanislaus State University ranked second in the West in a survey of the “best bang for the buck” in higher education.

The annual list from Washington Monthly magazine looks at student costs, early career earnings and other factors. The Turlock campus trailed only California State University, Los Angeles, in the 2023 survey.

It gave extra weight to efforts to reduce tuition and other costs for students from lower-income families. For Stan State, that “net price of attendance” was $4,997 a year. The survey also found that a decade after entering college, alumni had median annual earnings of $56,042.

“We are proud to equip students with the tools and skills for their success and contributions to their families and communities,” said Susan Borrego, interim president at Stan State, in a news release.

This college was followed in the top five by Brigham Young University in Utah and the CSU campuses at Northridge and Dominguez Hills.

Washington Monthly had similar rankings for the Northeast, Southeast, South and Midwest. It did not report a combined national list.

The magazine did produce a national ranking on which Stan State was No. 9. This was for schools that award master’s degrees but not doctorates.

“Our inclusion in these rankings confirms Stanislaus State’s commitment to providing a high-quality, affordable education to students while offering transformational opportunities that advance their economic mobility,” Borrego said.
