Star Wars series The Acolyte is set to make a big change for the franchise.

The upcoming Disney+ series is set 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace during the High Republic era, where the Jedi are at the peak of their powers.

As such, there will be a big emphasis on the use of lightsabers, with star Dafne Keen (who is playing a Jedi) revealing that there will be a big change-up with a lack of guns.

"I don't know if I'm allowed to say this, but I will just say it. There's a lack of guns, which personally as someone who loves fighting and stunts and stuff, I love," she told Entertainment Weekly's Dagobah Dispatch podcast.

"Because it gives you that body-to-body choreography – that dance feeling. It actually looks like a real fight as opposed to just I point and I shoot, which is kind of an easy cop out in a way. We get a lot of that body-to-body."

Keen added: "We have a lot of the sabers. And Chris Cowan and Mark Ginther and Daren Nop have choreographed all of these wonderful, wonderful stunts in such a beautiful way – it's visually stunning.

"We watched some stuff the other day and it was just gorgeous," she further teased. "And then we have a bunch of fights as well where there are no sabers where it's just full on. It's also really fun and does look really gritty and real. It feels like a fight."

Alongside Keen, The Acolyte boasts an impressive cast that includes Bodies Bodies Bodies' Amandla Stenberg, Squid Game's Lee Jung-jae, Anne Boleyn's Jodie Turner-Smith and The Good Place's Manny Jacinto.

Also on board are Russian Doll's Charlie Barnett, Game of Thrones' Dean-Charles Chapman, Litvinenko's Margarita Levieva and The Matrix's Carrie-Anne Moss, while Chewbacca actor Joonas Suotamo is returning to the franchise, this time as Wookie Jedi master Kelnacca.

The show comes from Russian Doll's Leslye Headland, who acts as creator, showrunner, executive producer and director.

Star Wars: The Acolyte is expected to come to Disney+ at some point in 2024. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+.
