Star Wars Episode 8: Take A Behind The Scenes Look At Maz Kanata

‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ director Rian Johnson has shared another snap from the anticipated sequel’s ongoing shoot - this time giving us a glimpse at the returning Maz Kanata.

Maz was brought to life through motion capture by Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong'o in last year’s 'The Force Awakens’, and had a small but crucial role to play in the plot.

Johnson shared his first behind the scenes picture on 10 March, snapping cinematographer Steve Yedlin in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon to celebrate four weeks of filming.

Nearly a month on and it appears the location shooting has moved indoors. In the black and white picture (below) we see Nyong'o on a sound stage and two screens showing screens that will mimic the facial movements of her performance.

There’s no sign of who might be sharing this scene with the actress, but yesterday Luke Skywalker himself Mark Hamill shared a picture taken with her, and Oscar Isaac, who plays Resistance pilot Poe Dameron - so maybe that’s a clue.

Perhaps we’re even seeing the scene in which Maz finally explains how she came into possession of Anakin and Luke Skywalker’s blue lightsabre, before turning it over to Finn (John Boyega).

The ongoing shoot features the entire new principal cast returning from 'Episode 7’, as well as series legends Hamill and Carrie Fisher, who plays General Leia.

Of course, no plot details have been revealed for the new film, so we’ll just have to wait until we’re a little closer to its December 2017 release date.
