This 'Star Wars' Fan Theory Suggests a Legendary Villain Kidnapped Baby Yoda

From Men's Health

With the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian almost upon us, it’s not surprising that fan speculation has reached a near fever pitch. How will this season wrap up, and what new information will we learn along the way? And how will earlier events be recast in a different light?

In the run-up to the finale, YouTuber Star Wars Theory—who produces new, speculative videos every day—wants us to think about Grogu, aka the Child, aka Baby Yoda. As you probably recall, there’s been some mystery around his past. He was raised in a Jedi temple, where many masters trained him. According to Ahsoka, someone took Grogu from the temple, and afterward his memory grows dark.

The show hasn’t revealed just what happened to Grogu, but Star Wars Theory has some ideas. It’s possible, the YouTuber suggests, that the Child was kidnapped by none other than dark lord Palpatine, also known as Darth Sidious.

Of course, in the Star Wars universe, it’s often easy to assume Palpatine is the hidden figure behind events, manipulating them for his own benefit. His death at the end of Return of the Jedi, followed by his never-really-explained resurrection and appearance in The Rise of Skywalker underscored that there’s a lot we don’t know about him or his plans.

The video lays out how Palpatine could have stolen Grogu, based on what we know of the Star Wars timeline. And it’s not totally implausible; there’s room within what we know for it to have happened. But for now, at least, we’ll just have to wait and see how The Mandalorian explains Grogu’s abduction.
