New Star Wars movies get confirmed release dates
Disney has confirmed the release dates for the three new Star Wars movies, but it's going to be a long wait.
Back in April, at Star Wars Celebration, it was confirmed that three new live-action movies from the franchise were on the way. Then in May, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that work on some of the new Star Wars movies has already started, though nothing would be released until at least 2025.
Now, Variety reports that a new Star Wars movie will be released on December 18, 2026. It will be preceded by a separate Star Wars movie on May 22, 2026, which was originally set for December 19, 2025.

There will also be another Star Wars movie hitting theatres on December 17, 2027. Variety adds that Disney hasn't clarified the plotlines of any of the instalments.
Meanwhile, earlier this month Taika Waititi gave fans an update on his new Star Wars movie, confirming that the script is still in development.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker revealed that he's got a "really good idea" for the upcoming project, but he's still struggling to piece it all together.

"I've got a really good idea for it," he said. "It's just as with all films, it's this middle part. You're like: 'What's going to happen?' And then you look at all of those films that are so great, you're like: 'Well, I guess they can't meet some smuggler with an alien sidekick'."
Meanwhile, Disney's scheduling update also included a host of new dates for Marvel films, with some being delayed a few months (such as Captain America: Brave New World) and others by a whole year (as for Avengers: Kang Dynasty).
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+.
