However, we now know just who they're playing, and, as suspected, Grant will be a high-ranking member of the First Order.

The actor will play Allegiant General Pryde, according to Vanity Fair – and it looks like he will be working closely with General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson).

Russell, meanwhile, will play "masked scoundrel" Zorri Bliss, who we will see in the Thieves’ Quarter of the snow-dusted world Kijimi.

In the same piece, it was also confirmed that The Rise of Skywalker will include the much-anticipated Knights of Ren, which we briefly glimpsed in The Force Awakens.

While Episode IX will mark the end of the Skywalker saga, Star Wars will continue on afterwards, with Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss overseeing the next movie.

Three new movies will be released between 2022 and 2026, with the pair directing the first one – though no further details have been released as of yet.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be released on Thursday, December 19 in the UK and Friday, December 20 in the US.
