Starbucks Responds To Viral Order That Made A Barista 'Want To Quit'

It's no shock that coffee fans love customizing drinks at their local Starbucks to achieve unique beverages, even if they're from what is colloquially known as the Starbucks "Secret" Menu. A recent tweet posted by a Starbucks barista showed an order that featured over 10 different drink personalizations and went totally viral online which sparked a conversation about other complicated customer orders.

In the now-deleted tweet, @ProjectJosiee posted a photo of a Starbucks order with the caption "On today's episode of why I wanna quit my job." The customer asked for things like extra caramel drizzle, extra whip, extra ice, extra cinnamon dolce, extra caramel crunch, and a plethora of other requests. The tweet made its rounds on the internet with over 50,000 retweets before it was ultimately deleted. @ProjectJosiee's post then inspired other Starbucks baristas to share complex orders they've gotten while at work with some photos showing drinks that included over 20 different additions.

The Starbucks menu makes it possible to make drinks that achieve the flavor you want by asking for specific kinds of milk, different pumps of flavor, and other specifications like cold foam, double blending, and more. On the Starbucks website, the company boasts that there are over 170,000 combinations that can be made through customizations. And with creators on TikTok sharing their go-to drinks that require finessing the menu with tailored asks these drinks are likely not going anywhere.

A spokesperson for Starbucks said that the ability to make every drink unique to the customer's preference is an important part of the experience. In a statement to Delish, they noted:

Customizing beverages at Starbucks and our baristas’ expertise in helping customers find and craft the right beverage has and always will be at the heart of the Starbucks Experience. There are many ways for customers to modify their favorite beverage and most customizations are reasonable requests from customers.

The spokesperson also said that baristas are familiar with their menu so if you're looking to achieve a specific flavor or drink they can help you get the beverage you want in the correct size cup. As a refresher, all of the "Secret Menu" hacks are the result of carefully curated drink customizations.

So consider this your daily reminder to be really nice to your Starbucks workers and tip them if you can. And maybe don't order your drink that requires 20 different add-ons during peak hours. But ultimately, you do you.
