Starbucks’ New Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino Packs More Sugar Than Ice Cream
Starbucks just released a new summer drink called the Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino
The drink was inspired by summer carnivals and features funnel-cake flavored syrup, strawberry puree, and crunchy funnel cake pieces.
Here’s a breakdown of the new Frappuccino’s nutrition information, including calories, sugar, and ingredients.
Starbucks just rolled out a new summer drink called the Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino—and you can expect to see it all over your Instagram feed this summer.
The drink was inspired by summer carnivals, according to a Starbucks press release. “We wanted to capture the joy of this time of year, and we thought about those simple pleasures that really encapsulate summer,” Sara Bennett, senior product developer for Starbucks R&D team, said in the release. “That led us to state fairs and funnel cake—just wanting to channel that sense of care-free fun.”
The drink itself is gorgeous, with swirls of bright red, tan, and white. But what’s in the Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino, exactly? And what can you expect from it on the nutrition side of things? Here’s a breakdown.
What’s in the Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino?
The Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino actually includes Starbucks’ Frappuccino Roast coffee, so it does contain some caffeine. The whole thing is made of coffee, milk, and ice blended with funnel-cake flavored syrup. Whipped cream and strawberry puree are layered on top, along with a sprinkle of crunchy funnel cake pieces and powdered sugar.
If you want specifics, these are the exact ingredients in the drink, according to Starbucks:
Ice
Milk
Coffee Frappuccino syrup
Whipped cream
Coffee
Strawberry puree sauce
Funnel cake syrup
Powdered sugar funnel cake pieces

What do dietitians think of the Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino?
The drink is definitely more of a dessert than a regular beverage to sip on, says Keri Gans, M.S., R.D., author of The Small Change Diet, thanks to its amount of calories, saturated fat, and added sugar.
“For reference, you could eat a whole cup—8 ounces—of Haagen-Dazs Cherry Vanilla ice cream for the same caloric load and still not have consumed as much sugar,” says Scott Keatley, R.D., of Keatley Medical Nutrition Therapy.
If you want to make your drink a little less indulgent, Gans says you could order a a tall (the smallest size), ask for just one pump of the funnel cake syrup, and skip the whipped cream.
But, if you just want to treat yourself and enjoy the Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino the way Starbucks intended, that’s OK, too. “If you’re having this drink for the nostalgia of the county fair, then you should just leave it as-is,” Keatley says.
