Stargazers catch images of Perseids meteor shower during weekend peak. Here's what they saw
Did you catch a meteor this weekend? Visually, I mean?
The Perseids meteor shower, one of the showiest and easiest to see, has been going on since July 14 and will continue until Earth passes through the cloud of debris that causes it on Sept. 1. But Aug. 12 and 13 were the peak nights to watch, with up to 100 meteors an hour blazing across the sky.
(You can still watch for them tonight, or any night over the next couple weeks. You just might not see as many).
Parts of Florida may have been too cloudy or overcast for a good view, but plenty of people were witnesses to one of the brightest, most fireball-heavy spectacles in years.
Here's what people were spotting and sharing on social media.
The Perseids did not disappoint last night 🌠🌌

Witnessed several dozen Perseid Meteors last night but this large fireball at 1:58:58am made us jump. The camera recorded the debris movements for more than 7 minutes after it broke up. The Perseids meteor shower peaks tonight and into the early morning hours of the 13th. Moon conditions are decent for a good viewing experience that could bring up to 100 meteors per hour! Will you be out tonight? #Perseids #PerseidMeteorShower pic.twitter.com/ehgTQnY32P

Damp scene for Perseids last night—dew on lenses, inbound clouds, finally dense fog. Set up with friends at Lake Mary, looking for reflection shots. 13 Perseids in this stack—trails aligned to the star field they fell against. Brightest fireballs of course streaked out of frame:) pic.twitter.com/CUIsoWl27F

The most incredible image I have seen of perseids this year.
This wonderful capture -during two nights- was taken from Cap de Creus, Catalonia, by the @AstroSabadell member Ignacio Llorens @qfwfq78.
I think this image deserves to be publishen in the APOD! pic.twitter.com/MvHl0xpH7k— Xavi Bros (@Xavi_Bros) August 14, 2023
