Stark Bites: Biggby Coffee coming to Jackson Twp.; Menches Bros. offering NFT memberships

Biggby Coffee is the newest coffee chain coming to the scene in Stark County. The coffee shop plans to open late this year or early next year at 4105 Hills and Dales Road NW in Jackson Township.

The menu includes traditional coffees and teas, featured drinks which are usually seasonal, lattes, hot chocolate, tea lattes, Biggby Blast energy drinks, freeze specials, bagels, muffins, other snacks and a kids’ menu.

All drinks at Biggby are made from scratch, and the ingredients are chosen by a team of coffee enthusiasts.

Founded in 1995 in East Lansing, MI, Biggby Coffee (formerly known as Beaner’s Coffee) is a franchise coffee shop that prides itself on giving back. Co-CEOs Bob Fish and Mike McFall believe that giving is getting.

National Coffee Day is Thursday, Sept. 29. To celebrate, many coffee chains are offering free coffee or special deals.

Biggby Coffee is offering a free 20 oz. hot or iced brewed coffee on Sept. 29. You can customize your drink for an additional cost.

According to wallethub.comDunkin’ Perks members can get a free medium hot or iced coffee at with any purchase on Sept. 29.

Using the McDonald’s app, customers can redeem any size premium roast coffee or iced coffee for 99 cents once daily through Dec. 31 at participating restaurants nationwide (including on National Coffee Day).

Sheetz is offering customers a free cold brew coffee with the purchase of any in-store item, redeemed through the Sheets app. It’s valid for any size cold brew.

No news is good news for Sylvester's North End Grille?

Sylvester's North End Grille, at 4305 Portage St. NW in Jackson Township, is still closed a year after the building was hit by a car.

Updates to the Sylvester's Facebook page have shown that the restaurant plans to reopen, with a comment from the Sylvester's account saying, "Dealing with insurance claims of this magnitude takes time..we are moving forward to rebuild and hoping to be open by October."

But after multiple attempts to connect, Sylvester's would not reply for comment.

The restaurant is still boarded up with its sign, missing a few letters, reading "Drun(k) dri(v)er. Temporarily close(d). Uber."

Menches Bros. introduces Lil Mench Memberships

Menches Bros. Restaurants, a family-owned business with three locations in Northeast Ohio, is unveiling a new way to reward customers with the launch of Lil Mench Memberships, an exclusive restaurant membership program where membership is purchased on the blockchain as an NFT.

“In 1885, our great-grandfather and great-uncle invented the hamburger. We still serve their original hamburger recipe at our restaurants, and it has always been our mission to carry on their legacy of culinary innovation and community building − bringing families and friends together over ridiculously good burgers,” John Menches, CEO of Menches Brothers, said in a press release.

Menches has partnered with Metaversal venture studio to “leverage web3 technology to create unique virtual, social and dine-in experiences for their customers,” said a press release from Menches. Lil Mench membership NFTs are powered by Metaversal, with support from Lazer Technologies and Nicework.

Members will receive 20% off regular-priced items for one year when dining in, exclusive access to a private menu, spice pack to make Menches burgers at home, chances to win prizes and access to invite-only parties and events.

A limited number of Lil Mench memberships will be available to purchase for $120 online at lilmench.com or in store at any Menches location Oct. 1-11.

Memberships also can be purchased at the Lil Mench launch parties from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 8 at Menches in Green at 3700 Massillon Rd. or from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 8 at Menches in Massillon at 235 Lincoln Way.

Launch parties will include $5 cheeseburgers, $5 appetizers, giveaways and prizes, and Lil Mench merchandise.

St. George Serbian Orthodox Church to host Autumn Nights Dinner Dance and Raffle 

St. George Serbian Orthodox Church will be hosting an Autumn Nights dinner dance and raffle starting at 5:30 p.m. at St. George Event Center at 4667 Applegrove St. NW in North Canton.

The event will feature Jimmy and the Soul Blazers.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for a cocktail hour featuring free draft beer and hot d’oeuvres. Dinner and desserts will be served from 6:30 to 8 p.m. There will be live music and dancing from 8 to 11 p.m. A cash bar will be available all evening.

Admission is $50 per person, and tickets are available by presale only. Ticket sales are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the St. George Event Center office through Sept. 29.
