Which Stark County-area churches are offering fish fries during Lent?

Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent, a 40-day period of prayer, fasting and penitence leading up to Easter. Lent begins Wednesday.

Here's what some area churches are offering when it comes to traditional fish fry and Lenten meals:

Christopher Columbus Charities, lodge hall, 505 S. Liberty St., Alliance. Fish and chicken strip dinner Fridays 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. during Lent, pickup or dine-in. Call ahead at 330-821-8204. The bowling alley will be open.

Deliverance Christian Church at the Kingdom Center, 2631 Harvard Ave. NW, Canton. Whiting or swai fried fish meal, including two sides, is $12. Side options are french fries, fried okra, coleslaw or salad. Place orders in person or call 234-410-3733.

First Christian Church 1020 Wales Rd. NE, Massillon. Carryout or dine-in. Fridays, Feb. 24 to March 31. Meal includes two pieces of fried cod, choice of two sides (macaroni and cheese, hot rice or green beans), coleslaw, roll and cookie. Adults, $15; children (ages 4 to 10) $10. Drinks with dine-in only. A la carte $3, extra piece of fish or a side dish. Ten percent of proceeds will go to local missions. No phone orders.

Holy Family Parish, 216 E. Wooster St., Navarre. 330-879-5900. Carryout and dine-in at St. Clement Hall, 4 to 6:30 p.m. Fridays, Feb. 24 through March 31. Fish dinner includes french fries, coleslaw and roll; two-piece dinner, $8; three-piece $11; five-piece fish only, $13; fish sandwich $5.

Little Flower Catholic Parish Men’s Club Fish Fry, 2040 Diamond St. NE, Plain Township. Fridays from 4:30 to 7 p.m. during Lent (except Good Friday): Feb. 24, March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31. Dine-in or carryout (no phone orders). Two-piece fried or baked cod dinner with two sides, $14; shrimp dinner with two sides, $14; children's dinners with two sides, $7. Side choices are applesauce, french fries, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw or green beans. Coffee and soft drinks are included with dinner (dine-in orders only). Desserts sold separately.

Dinners: fried or baked cod, $12; three fish tacos, $12; shrimp, $14; combo shrimp/cod baked or fried, $14; pierogies, two slices pizza or macaroni and cheese, $10; children’s or seniors’ dinners – one piece fish if getting fish, $10. All dinners include water, bread and butter, coffee/tea and two hot sides (green beans, french fries, buttered red-skin potatoes, mixed vegetables, macaroni and cheese, hot rice or pierogies) and one cold side (applesauce or coleslaw). Soft drinks also available for purchase. Desserts: ice cream $2, ice cream sundaes $3, pie $2, other desserts $1.

Dinners include a choice of fish (baked or fried cod) or shrimp; side dish (french fries, rice pilaf with mixed vegetables, macaroni and cheese or baked potato); applesauce or coleslaw; dinner roll and dessert.

Sacred Heart of Mary Church, 8900 Columbus Rd., Louisville. Carryout or dine-in Fridays 4:30-6:30 p.m., Feb. 24 through March 31 in the Parish Hall. Menu includes one-, two-, or three-piece fish dinner, baked or beer-battered fried; two large sides (choose from macaroni and cheese, french fries, rice or haluski) and one small side (choose from green beans, coleslaw or applesauce), plus roll and butter, dessert and beverage. St. Ann Church, 323 S. 15th St., Sebring. Lenten pierogi sale every Friday, Feb. 24 through March 31. Lunch, dinner and carryout from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Menu includes halushki at $3, pierogies at $1 each or $10 a dozen (potato and cheese, kraut, jalapeno, toppings available), apple fritters for $1.50. Meal includes baked or fried fish, french fries or baked potato, slaw, bread, dessert and beverage. Adults, $10; children (6-12), $5; younger than 6, free. St. George Romanian Byzantine Catholic Cathedral, 1123 44th St. NE, Canton. Carryout and dine-in fish fry, 4:30 to 7 p.m. Fridays, Feb. 24 through March 31. For carryout, call 330-492-8413. Dinners include two sides and homemade bread. Dinner choices are beer-battered fish (two pieces) $17; baked fish dinner (one large piece), $17; or seafood platter (four shrimp, four scallops, one beer-battered fish), $18. No pre-orders. Adult dinners, $17, include entrée (eight- to 10-ounce piece of baked cod, two pieces hand beer-battered cod or eight shrimp), three sides, roll and butter. Children’s dinners, $8, include four breaded shrimp or one piece of beer-battered cod, one side, roll and butter. A la carte available. Homemade desserts and beverages available for purchase. Drive-thru fish fry every Friday, Feb. 24 to April 7; pickup is 4:30 to 6 p.m. Fried battered cod dinner or baked cod dinner served with jo-jo potatoes, hot sauce rice, tangy vinegar coleslaw and tartar sauce, $16.
