Stark County Health Dept. to host mobile vaccine clinic with new COVID booster shot

JACKSON TWP. ‒ The Stark County Health Department is helping to organize a four-hour vaccine clinic with the new COVID booster shot Thursday at Kent State University Stark campus, according to a department statement.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Parking Lot 100 just south of the West Boulevard NW entrance to the campus at 6000 Frank Ave. NW. The entrance is on the western side of the campus just off Frank Avenue.

The updated "bivalent" shot boosts immunity against the original COVID strain as well as the newest Omicron variants, the statement said.

The Ohio Department of Health is providing a mobile vaccine clinic to administer the booster shots in addition to first and second shots of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna Covid vaccines. Those ages 5 and older can get the first and second Pfizer shots. Those ages 12 and older can get the new Pfizer booster shot.

Only those ages 18 and olders are eligible for the Moderna vaccines.

Beacon Charitable Pharmacy is also helping to put on the clinic. The clinic is open to the general public including students and faculty members.

People can also get blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol and body mass index screenings. The department says it will provide free sanitizer, COVID test kits and masks.

Beacon Charity Pharmacy staff will also provide people education about vaccines, assistance with learning about prescription drugs and Narcan kits to prevent fatal drug overdoses.
