Holiday party at library
ALLIANCE – Rodman Public Library will hold a holiday party at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Alliance High School Choralaires will sing Christmas carols and then introduce Santa Claus, who will greet the children. Santa will be available for photos and will pass out a treat.

Teens invited to decorate ornaments
ALLIANCE – Rodman Public Library invites ages 12 to 18 to the Main Library at 3 p.m. Tuesday to paint a ceramic ornament provided by Hot Pots. The ornaments will be processed at Hot Pots and will be available for pickup at the library or at Hot Pots in time for Christmas. All materials will be provided for free. Acting, musical events at Mount Union
ALLIANCE – The University of Mount Union has scheduled two visual and performing arts events this week.
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, an Acting Showcase will take place in the Gallaher Black Box Theatre in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts. At 11:15 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, the Mount Union Concert Choir and Cantus will perform during the Christmas Festival. Tickets are required and are available at www.mountunion.edu/boxoffice.

'The Nutcracker’ with giant puppets
ALLIANCE – Madcap Puppets will bring its version of “The Nutcracker” to the Rodman Public Library stage Dec. 13 in two performances, at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The classic rendition of The Nutcracker is told through a two-act ballet with the famous score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The Madcap version is adapted by veteran actor Dylan Shelton, an artistic director who has been with the theater troupe since 2002, and twists the story into a fantastic tale filled with giant puppets, comical characters and audience participation. In the plot of the Madcap production, Clara needs a little help from The Nutcracker to keep the Sugarplum Fairy from spoiling the holiday festival.

Racial equity workshop set Wednesday
CANTON – Stark Community Foundation is offering free community access to the Racial Equity Institute’s virtual Groundwater workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Zoom.
The Groundwater workshop is a three-hour introduction to racial equity where participants will deepen their understanding of structural racism and racial disparities. The workshop uses stories and data to present a perspective that shows how racism is fundamentally structural in nature.

Ornament workshop at museum
CANTON – The McKinley Presidential Library & Museum will be presenting a holiday ornament workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. It is free with paid admission to the museum. Kids will enjoy making beaded snowflakes and candy canes, wooden ornaments, magic scratch art ornaments, and more. This is an open-house style workshop. Christmas Tour of Homes set Dec. 12
DOVER – The Heritage Home Association of Tuscarawas County will host its 27th annual Christmas Tour of Homes from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Dover-New Philadelphia area. Eight sites will be decorated for the holiday season, including three homes and one church of architectural or historical significance.
A limited number of tickets may be purchased for $15 in advance at www.tuschha.org or in person at Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover or New Philadelphia, First National Bank of Dennison in Dennison, or at Pam’s Posies in Dover or for $20 at any tour site on the day of the tour. Tourists will be asked wear face masks inside each site and to remove their shoes or wear shoe coverings.
Civil War Round Table trivia event set
DOVER – The Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Round Table will hold a special Civil War-themed trivia night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Community Room of the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St., directly across the street from Dover High School. The mission of the Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Round Table is to educate the community about the American Civil War, preserve Civil War heritage and to remember those who struggled for their cause.
Frequent Round Table presenter Chris Hart will facilitate the trivia night, dedicated to the late Steve Long, iconic community leader, reporter, actor, playwright and Civil War buff. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team. For more information, contact the Dover Public Library at 330-343-6123.
Oddmall celebration set Saturday
GREEN – Oddmall is one of Ohio’s largest and most unique exhibitions of art and artifice featuring hundreds of artists, crafters, entertainers, cosplayers, artisans, and purveyors of games, toys, comics, collectibles, and all things odd, geeky, bizarre, imaginative and wonderful. Chrishanukwanzmadan, Oddmall’s holiday show celebration, will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Tadmor Shrine, 3000 Krebs Drive.

Book sale Saturday
MASSILLON – The Friends of the Massillon Public Library plans a book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the library’s book garage. For sale at bargain prices will be gently used/new hardbacks, paperbacks, CDs, DVDs, video games and more. The public is welcome. Entry numbers will be given out starting at 9:30 p.m. The book garage is diagonally across the street from the library on the southwest corner of Lincoln Way and Second Street. Look for the signs. Book club to meet Dec. 21
MASSILLON – The Askren Branch of Massillon Public Library hosts a book club on the third Tuesday of the month. The next meeting will be at 9 a.m. Dec. 21, when the group will discuss “The Lions of Fifth Avenue,” by Fiona Davis. The book club is free and open to the public, with no registration required. There will be no Fourth Monday Book Club in December.
Escape Room event at library

Book sale at Farmers Market
NORTH CANTON – The Friends of the North Canton Library will sell used books from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Farmers Market in the old Kmart building at North Main and Applegrove streets NW. All kinds of books will be available from $1 to $5. Used books, audiobooks, music CDs and DVDs are always for sale in the northeast corner of the library’s first floor.
Stark Parks announces photo contest
PERRY TWP. – Stark Parks invites amateur and hobby photographers to capture the unique look of the winter season in Stark Parks during the next few months and enter its Winter Photo Contest.
The contest will run through March 12. Any Stark County resident who is not a professional photographer may enter. Professional photographers are those whose primary source of income (50% or more) results from their photography work.
There will be three age classes: ages 9-13, ages 14-17, and ages 18+. Entries will be divided into three categories: Wildlife, Landscape/Scenery and People Enjoying Nature. Participants can submit one photo per category or three photos total. Participants may win in only one category. All photos must be taken within Stark Parks from Dec 1, 2021, through March 12, 2022.
