Job fair Tuesday in Alliance

ALLIANCE – The city of Alliance and OhioMeansJobs Stark County are hosting a hybrid job fair, with job seekers being able to attend in person or virtually.

The job fair will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Alliance Area Senior Center, 602 W. Vine St. Those unable to attend in person can attend virtually. Registration for attendees for the virtual job fair can be completed at https://pvapi.premiervirtual.com/s/862648.

The event will feature local employers representing a variety of industries. Each employer will have both an in-person and virtual booth featuring their current job openings at varying levels of experience.

Alliance Orchestra sets concert

ALLIANCE – The Alliance Symphony Orchestra Spring Concert will be from 3 to 5 p.m. April 24 at Brush Auditorium at the University of Mount Union.

Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors or veterans; students are free, but tickets are required. Seating is general admission, but space is limited. There is no handling fee. Go to mountunion.edu/boxoffice.

Silent auction at library

ALLIANCE– The Friends of Rodman Public Library will host a silent auction of surplus furniture and equipment from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The public can browse the items up for auction in the Main Library Auditorium and make bids. The winning bids will be determined April 25, and the winners will be notified. Those with winning bids will have until April 28 to pick up their items from the library. Payment will be made at time of pickup. Only cash or check will be accepted.

Mount Union Wind Ensemble

ALLIANCE –The University of Mount Union Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Lori Burse, will present a spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Brush Performance Hall in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts. The event is free and open to the public

Environmentalist to speak

ALLIANCE – Author and environmentalist Ken Ilgunas will speak at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts Gallaher Theatre at the University of Mount Union as part of its Earth Month programming.

Ilgunas will present "Trespassing across America: One Man's Epic, Never-Done-Before (and sort of Illegal) Hike along the Keystone XL Pipeline," featuring stories from his 2016 book of the same name. He is also the author of "Walden on Wheels" and "This Land is Our Land."

'Snow White' ballet at the Palace

CANTON – "Snow White," a full-length ballet choreographed by Angelo Lemmo, will be performed at 2 p.m. April 24 at the Canton Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N. Tickets range from $10 to $28; visit www.cantonballet.com.

Jazz concert at Tozzi’s

Festival at Centennial Plaza

CANTON – A Clean Living Festival, presented by the City of Canton, will take place at Centennial Plaza on Saturday in honor of Earth Day.

The kickoff event will be the Canton Earth Day 5k starting at 9 a.m. There will be guided yoga sessions, healthy and organic food vendors, holistic practices, planting demonstrations, vintage vendors and more from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Fashion show and dinner auction set

CANTON – Silly Saxophone Entertainment will present "Boujee on a Budget" Fashion Show and Dinner Auction at 4 p.m. May 7 at The Mothership FBL Connection Hall, 1120 Cleveland Ave. SW. Tickets and dinner are $40.

Carolyn Fite will host the event with comedian Marcus Martin and "auctioneer" Chris Smith. The event will include live jazz entertainment featuring saxophonist Tim Tolber. Catering will be by Jimbo's Restaurant.

Local creators and designers and the sponsorships of Encore and Goodwill stores will provide clothing and accessories to be auctioned. Poetry Night at Magic Mugs

DOVER – The Dover Library will celebrate National Poetry Month at Magic Mugs, 237 W. Third St., on Friday beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Friends of the Library has partnered with the coffee shop to give poets and poetry lovers an opportunity to enjoy a special evening together. Stories from the border

DOVER – Belinda Lentz, director of Christian Education at St. John’s United Church of Christ, will share her experiences at the southern border at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St.

Lentz will show images and talk about what life is like on the U.S.-Mexico border for migrants and the relief workers who are ministering to them.

Lentz has traveled to the border for the past nine years. Every year, Lentz joins members of the Green Valley Samaritans from the Good Shepherd UCC in Sahuarita, Arizona.

Writers group meets at Dover library

DOVER – The Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St., hosts a writers critique group that meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in the library's Community Room.

MAPS pancake breakfast is April 24

GREEN – The MAPS Spring Pancake Breakfast will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 24 at the MAPS Air Museum, 2260 International Parkway. Breakfast is $10 for adults, $6 for children younger than 12.

Outdoorsman show in Hartville

HARTVILLE –The Great Outdoorsman Show will be at the Hartville Marketplace and Flea Market, 1289 Edison St. NW, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 30.

The new event will feature hunting, firearms and fishing vendors, along with camping and outdoor gear exhibitors.

Knights of Columbus offers dinner

MASSILLON – The Massillon Knights of Columbus, 988 Cherry Road NW, will have a to-go meatloaf dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Book club to meet

MASSILLON – The Massillon Public Library, 208 Lincoln Way E, will host The Page Turners Book Club at 1 p.m. April 25 in the library’s auditorium.

Massillon Museum offers textile workshop

MASSILLON – Artist Allison Smith will lead the "Connecting Threads: An Introduction to Textiles" workshop from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Massillon Museum, 121 Lincoln Way E.

The workshop is offered as an accompaniment to the themes in Massillon Museum’s 2022 NEA Big Read book selection, "An American Sunrise" by Muscogee author Joy Harjo, U.S. poet laureate. The workshop also complements the "Threads Moving Backward and Forward: Contemporary Textile Artworks from Ohio" exhibition in Massillon Museum’s Fred F. Silk Community Room Gallery through May 18.

Earth Day Open House at Sippo

PERRY TWP. – Stark County Parks District will hold an Earth Day Open House from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Wildlife Conservation Center atrium at Sippo Lake Park West, 800 Genoa Ave. NW.

Guests are invited to visit with live animals and learn why the center does what it does. Special guest Ohio Ocean Foundation will join the free open house for activities.

Earth Day at The Wilderness Center

SUGAR CREEK TWP. – In celebration of Earth Day, The Wilderness Center, 9877 Alabama Ave. SW, will offer activities from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The Run Wild! Spring Trail Run will offer an opportunity to celebrate Earth Day with an early morning run/walk. The 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk is at 8 a.m.; timed 5K Run/Walk is at 9 a.m.; and timed 10K Run is at 10:30 a.m. Participants can also partake in a free yoga flow provided by Flex Yoga Studios at 10:15 a.m.

Registration fees support conservation and nature education efforts in the community. Registration is through Mid Ohio Race Management at https://registration.midohiorm.com/events/run-wild-twc-trail-race-01042022743. Registrants receive a race T-shirt (one per participant), after-event snacks and drink, as well as a chance at awards.

There also will be Earth Day activities for the family. Local artists will be on site making art with recycled materials. Other family-friendly events include science experiments and a spring flower walk led by a naturalist.

At 10 a.m., the Center will begin the annual Tree of Life tree plantings. Throughout the year, donors give Tree of Life gifts in memory of loved ones, in honor of special achievement, or to celebrate life’s monumental occasions. The funds support a conservation project, and this year, the Center will continue working to reforest an old farm field on Alabama Avenue. Anyone who gave to the Tree of Life program or was honored with a Tree of Life gift for themselves or a loved one is invited to participate in the planting.
