'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ at Mount Union

ALLIANCE – The University of Mount Union Department of Performing Arts will present “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” from March 30 through April 2 in Brush Performance Hall in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts. Performances will begin at 7:30 pm. March 30, 31 and April 1, and at 2 p.m. April 2.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors/veterans. Order tickets at mountunion.edu/boxoffice or call 330-821-2565. Tickets also can be purchased at the box office from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday one week before the show. The box office will open for ticket sales one hour before the show starts.

Free seeds available at library

ALLIANCE – Rodman Public Library, 215 E. Broadway St., has partnered with StarkFresh to bring a “seed library” to Alliance.

Vegetable and flower seeds are displayed in the library’s wooden card catalog in the library’s front lobby. Patrons may browse the catalog and take the free seed packets of items they wish to grow. The seeds, donated by Marc’s grocery stores and Canton City Public Health, will be available through May 31 while supplies last.

Canal Fulton library plans programs

CANAL FULTON – The Canal Fulton Public Library, 154 E. Market St., has announced the following programs. To register, stop by the Information Desk or call the library at 330-854-4148.

  • Interactive Family Storytime, 6 p.m. Wednesday: Stories, songs, and sensory play during this family-friendly story hour. The theme for this month is pirates. Ages birth-12. Registration is required.

  • Pastel Monoprints, 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday: Create a print using oil pastels. For grades K-5. Registration is required.

  • STEM for Tiny Hands, 10 a.m. Friday: Children ages 2-5, with the help of a parent or caregiver, will use their tiny hands to explore S.T.E.M concepts and activities. This program is filled with hands-on activities that include materials that may be messy or wet. The theme involves shoes and balance. Registration is required.

Lectures at Malone University this week

CANTON – Robert Tracy McKenzie, professor of history and the Arthur F. Holmes chair of faith and learning at Wheaton College, will present Malone University’s 2023 John Woolman Lectures in Christian Scholarship at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in Johnson Center Room 106.

McKenzie’s two lectures will stem from his new book, “We the Fallen People: The Founders and the Future of American Democracy.”

Wednesday’s lecture is titled “We the Fallen People: Redefining Ourselves for a Healthier Democracy,” and explores how our view of ourselves affects our interactions with democracy.

Thursday’s lecture is titled “‘I Am Full of Fears and Hopes': Alexis de Tocqueville on Christianity and the Peril and Promise of Democracy” and will deal with Alexis de Tocqueville’s Democracy in America, questioning if Tocqueville would reach the same conclusion about Christianity and America that he arrived at two centuries ago.

Community wellness grants available

CANTON – Stark County Mental Health & Addiction Recovery, 121 Cleveland Ave. SW, is offering two $2,500 program grants.

Ideal applicants will develop and/or continue programs that promote resiliency and offer youth positive socio-emotional and/or educational experiences. Recent grantees include Domestic Violence Project Inc. for its Youth Summer Program, Pathway Caring for Children for its Life Skills Development and Enhancement, and the Stark County Urban Minority Alcohol and Drug Addiction Outreach Project Inc. for its Dally in the Alley event. Previous applicants are not eligible to receive the award for two consecutive years.

Proposals are due via email to proposals@StarkMHAR.org by 5 p.m. April 3. Read the application guidelines and other information found at StarkMHAR.org, then “Initiatives,” then “Community Wellness RFP” prior to submitting.

Ad agency wins four awards

CANTON – Advertising agency Innis Maggiore has earned four marketing industry awards, two 2022 Summit Marketing Effectiveness Awards and two 2023 ADDY awards from the American Advertising Federation’s Akron chapter.

In the Summit Marketing Effectiveness Awards competition, Innis Maggiore earned Platinum recognition for its positioning and marketing work for Midwest Industrial Supply Inc., and Silver recognition for its development of Harris Battery’s two new brands, EnerGenie and Harris Solaris. The agency earned Silver ADDY awards for the Reflections video produced for Babcock & Wilcox and its own internal Island of Misfit Toys campaign.

Learn what it’s like to reenter society after incarceration

CANTON – A reentry simulation event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Friday at Malone University to demonstrate what it’s like to reintegrate into society after incarceration.

It will help attendees understand how having a criminal record creates barriers that prevent access to many services and opportunities, such as employment, housing and education.

The event will be held in Malone University's Johnson Center Dining Room, just off of Malone's Cleveland Avenue entrance. Lunch is included. Enter adjacent to the Johnson Center parking lot. Signs will be posted.

Sponsors are Leadership Stark County and Crossroads United Methodist. This event is co-hosted by Young Christian Professionals and Malone University's Criminal and Restorative Justice Program.

Historical Society program Tuesday

JACKSON TWP. − The Jackson Township Historical Society, 7756 Fulton Drive NW, will host the program "Who was Gen. Beatty?" by Todd Morris at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Morris has extensive knowledge about Beatty and even dismantled his house, piece by piece. Beatty was a prominent farmer in Jackson Township, a sheriff and served in the Civil War. Membership meeting will follow.

Program helps buyers research potential property purchase

MASSILLON – Stark Soil & Water Conservation District will host a Resources for Purchasing Property program from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Learn about web soil survey and mapping resources available to research the impacts of stormwater on properties and the drainage expertise available if problems do arise. This presentation will help attendees make an informed decision before committing to the purchase of a property.

Buy fish for your pond

MASSILLON – Stark Soil & Water Conservation District is accepting orders for its annual fish sale. Fish are pre-sale only. Print an order form by visiting starkswcd.org. The order deadline is March 29. Payment must accompany the order.

Pickup is 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. April 4; arrive within the designated time frame and bring plastic lined containers partially filled with your pond water. The fish truck will be on Business Place (the street between the USDA Service Center and Anchor Baptist Church). The USDA Service Center is at 2650 Richville Drive SE. Evening of Celtic Music and Dance on Saturday

MINERVA − The Minerva Area Chamber of Commerce will offer its 10th annual Evening of Celtic Music and Dance in the newly reopened Roxy Theatre, 114 N. Market St., at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The event will feature the music of Ireland and Scotland, from traditional to contemporary, as well as dancers from the O’Kennedy-Holland Irish Dance Academy. Musicians will include traditional Irish band Bealtaine from Pittsburgh, Tom Freeland, Jim GraySmith and Jordan GraySmith.

Traditional Irish and Scottish baked goods, including shortbread, scones, double fudge Irish cream cookies, Irish dairy cake, whiskey cake and gingersnaps, will be available by donation, and chances will be sold for a Celtic raffle basket. Tickets are $10 each, available at the chamber office, 203 N. Market St., or on celticmusicminerva.eventbrite.com. Unless the event is sold out, tickets will be available at the door.
