Red Cross blood drives this week

The American Red Cross has scheduled the following blood donation drives this week in Stark County. All who come to give in August will get a $10 e-gift card to a movie merchant of their choice. Details are available at RedCrossBlood.org/Movie.

5K in Alliance on Labor Day

ALLIANCE − The CommQuest and Alliance Rotary Castle Run for Hope will be Sept. 4, with a 9 a.m. start. The chip-timed 5K begins and finishes at Glamorgan Castle, 200 Glamorgan St.

The event benefits CommQuest and the Alliance Rotary. Visit the community resource fair before and after the race.

Participants receive a race T-shirt and finisher medal. (Only those participants registered by Saturday are guaranteed a shirt. Finisher medals for the first 200 pre-registered.) Concerts set for St. Helena Heritage Park

CANAL FULTON − A string quartet from the Canton Symphony Orchestra will perform at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Helena Heritage Park, 123 Tuscarawas St. NW, as part of Stark Parks Summer Serenades in the Park series. No registration is required. Bring a chair or blanket, picnic food and games.

LaFlavour will perform a free All Eras Tribute concert from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at St. Helena Heritage Park. Bring a lawn chair. There will be food trucks and a beverage area.

An '80s/'90s Music Festival will be at the St. Helena Amphitheater from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday. Eric Brooke Band will open from noon to 2 p.m. Van Halen Tribute "On Fire" will play from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Foo Fighters Tribute "Back & Forth" will perform from 6 to 7:30 p.m. And Bad JuJu will finish the show from 8 to 10 p.m. Bring a lawn chair. This festival has free admission. There will be food trucks and a beverage area. Parking at the St. Helena Heritage Park parking lot is $10.

Palace Theatre to feature ‘The Room,’ Q&A session with film’s star

CANTON − The Anniversary Film Series continues at 6 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N, with a 20th anniversary showing of "The Room.”

Greg Sestero, star of "The Room” and author of “The Disaster Artist,” will be there for a question-and-answer session before the film as well as a meet-and-greet opportunity for every ticket holder.

Doors open at 5 p.m. Admission is $20, with tickets available in advance and at the door. Tickets are on sale now. Merchandise will be available for sale/signature.

‘Animal House’ at the Palace on Friday

Great Trail Arts and Crafts Festival next two weekends

MALVERN − The Great Trail Arts and Crafts Festival will be held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Aug. 27, Sept. 2, 3 and 4 at the Great Trail Festival Grounds, 6331 Canton Road.

The Great Trail Festival is a celebration of American folk art, with contemporary and country crafting. The French and Indian era festival includes live music, clog dancing, show fiddlers, Scottish pipers, historical lectures and demonstrations, a live buffalo herd, battle reenactments and tomahawk throwing.

Springsteen tribute band to perform Thursday

Tribute to ABBA on Aug. 27

Massillon Woman’s Club clambake fundraiser is Saturday

MASSILLON − The Massillon Woman’s Club will host a McClymonds’ Old Fashioned Clambake on Saturday at the Ninth Street Event Center, 1008 Ninth St. SW. Doors open at 5 p.m. The public is welcome.

The evening will include dinner, music provided by Jimmy and the Soulblazers, silent and live auction items and a 50/50 raffle.

Family Fun Day is Saturday

MINERVA − Minerva's Family Fun Day, hosted by local churches of the community, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Municipal Park with free family activities, food, bounce houses and door prizes. There will be an outdoor movie on the lawn at the amphitheater to follow. In case of rain, the movie will move to the Great Trail Community Church gymnasium.

Walsh University to host U.S. National Security Policy panel

NORTH CANTON – Walsh University will host a U.S. National Security Policy panel with world leaders at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 in the Cecchini Center Alumni Arena, 2020 E. Maple St., as part of its Presidential Thought Leadership Series, a lecture series that brings well-known visionaries from around the world to Walsh’s campus.

The event will feature a panel discussion with Gen. Philip M. Breedlove, USAF, Ret., 17th Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) 2013-2016; Ambassador Francis Campbell, British ambassador to the Holy See 2005–2011 and personal secretary for Prime Minister Tony Blair, 2001–2003; and Gen. Tod D. Wolters, USAF, Ret., 19th Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), 2019–2022. It will be moderated by Dr. Joe Wood, national security adviser and chief of staff for Vice President Dick Cheney. The policy panel discussion will be introduced by Walsh President Tim Collins, a retired Air Force fighter pilot and graduate of the National War College.

They will delve into the ongoing Russian military operation in Ukraine and offer insights on leadership qualities to consider when electing political candidates.

The event is free and open to the public; however, tickets are required for admission and must be reserved by Friday at www.walsh.edu/leadershipseries. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Recording devices will not be permitted.

Meet the candidates running for offices in Perry Township

PERRY TWP. – The Perry History Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the Perry Police Department lower level. Meet the candidates running for offices in Perry Township: Luis Lacourt, Karl Duell, Ralph DeChiara and Craig Chessler. Bonita Hunt is also a candidate but will be unable to attend. Each candidate will get 15 minutes to introduce themselves and explain their platform, then will take questions from the audience. The business meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

Glow Trail Challenge is Saturday

PIKE TWP. − Stark Parks will hold the four-mile Glow Trail Challenge at Fry Family Park, 2533 Farber St. SE, on Saturday. Check-in is at 8:15 p.m. The event is open to runners and walkers of all ages; however, trails are not conducive to strollers. The cost is $5 and participants must be registered before Friday.
