Programs at Canal Fulton Public Library

CANAL FULTON − The Canal Fulton Public Library, 154 Market St. NE, has announced the following programs:

  • Tuesday, 6 p.m.: 2000s Night Trivia Party. This event is open to all ages and will use the Kahoot! App, so bring a personal device to play. To register, call 330-854-4148 (option 3).

  • Wednesday, 6 p.m.: Burton Porter’s Old Canal Days Tour. Join the local history librarian along this guided walking tour around Canal Fulton’s Historic District. The tour will note numerous sites, stories and characters featured in Burton Porter’s book “Old Canal Days.” In case of inclement weather, the tour will be conducted virtually within the library's Program Room. Space is limited; sign up in advance by calling 330-854-4148 (option 3).

  • Saturday, 10 a.m.: It Now Has Pockets. Add pockets to your clothes. You bring your clothes, and the library will provide the rest. Register in advance for this program by calling 330-854-4148 (option 3).

  • Sept. 11, 5:30 p.m.: Teen Anime Club. Enjoy anime and snacks at this teens and tweens event for grades 6-12. Registration is appreciated, but not required.

Concert set for St. Helena Heritage Park

CANAL FULTON − In the Heartland, a Michael Stanley tribute, will perform a free concert from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at St. Helena Heritage Park, 123 Tuscarawas St. NW. Bring a lawn chair. There will be food trucks and a beverage area. No coolers are permitted.

Night of gospel music Saturday at the Palace Theatre

CANTON − Grammy-nominated, Dove Award-winning Ernie Haase and Signature Sound, the Hoppers and Christian comedian Mickey Bell will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N.

Downtown Canton Music Festival is Thursday and Friday

CANTON − The Downtown Canton Music Festival will be from 3:30 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday and from noon to 10:30 p.m. Friday at Centennial Plaza, 330 Court Ave. NW, with two stages of entertainment. Cigar and Whiskey Festival is Saturday

CANTON − The second annual Be A Better Me Foundation Cigar and Whiskey Festival will be 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Plaza, 330 Court Ave. NW, with live music, cigar companies and vendors. Jimmy and The Soul Blazers will take the outdoor stage at 6:30 p.m., weather permitting.

Picnic for those in need is Saturday

CANTON − Canton City Council will host its annual “Canton Helping Canton” free picnic for those in need from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on Third Street and Court Avenue SW, beneath the parking deck. The picnic will be held rain or shine.

Canton Garden Center sets fundraiser luncheon

CANTON − Canton Garden Center will hold its fall fundraiser, “Mum's the Word,” on Sept. 28 at Chateau Michelle, 2231 44th St. NW.

Doors open at 11 a.m., with lunch at noon. The cost is $30. There will be gift baskets, raffles and a program by Stark Parks. Seating is limited. Reservations are due Sept. 14. For more information, visit www.cantongardencenter.com.

Canton Carnival of Wheels is next Sunday

JACKSON TWP. − The annual Canton Carnival of Wheels will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 10 on the campus of Stark State College, 6200 Frank Ave. NW. The show is in its 16th year.

The show donates all net proceeds to Stark State’s Automotive Technology Scholarship Fund. The Canton Carnival of Wheels has donated more than $120,000 to the fund and a related endowment. Those dollars have generated scholarships for more than 150 students.

The Canton Carnival of Wheels is a showcase for owners of a diverse array of vehicles. The vehicle participation fee is $10. In addition, law enforcement from Jackson Township, Stark County and Canal Fulton will stage K-9 demonstrations.

There will be a 50/50 drawing, silent auction, engine valve cover car racing for adults, Hot Wheels racing for kids, the presentation of awards and a range of food choices. There is no admission charge for spectators. More details are available at www.cantoncarnivalofwheels.com.

Jackson Township Farmers Market continues Thursdays through Sept. 28

JACKSON TWP. − The Jackson Township Farmers Market is 3 to 7 p.m. Thursdays through Sept. 28 at the Nash Family Amphitheater parking lot, 7454 Community Parkway NW.

JACKSON TWP. − The Nash Family Jackson Amphitheater, 7454 Community Parkway NW, will show the free movie “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” at 6 p.m. Saturday. Food trucks will be available. Bring blankets or chairs to sit on the lawn, as seating is not provided.

Once Upon a Child to host free baby safety event

JACKSON TWP. – September is Baby Safety Month, and to celebrate, Once Upon a Child will host Baby Safety Day from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at 4641 Dressler Road NW. The event is free and open to the public and will feature the following:

  • Touch a Fire Truck activity by the Jackson Township Fire Department.

  • The Stark County Health Department will be doing baby car seat safety checks and be providing baby-related information.

  • The Heart of Ohio Diaper Bank will be distributing free diapers sizes 1, 2 and 3.

  • Canine Companions service dog training program will have dogs on-site for petting.

  • The Sundae Skool Truck will be giving away free cold treats to children 12 and younger.

  • Once Upon a Child Canton will be raffling a $100 gift card to adults in attendance.

Women-only weekend Sept. 16-17 at Walborn Reservoir

MARLBORO TWP. − Stark Parks will hold a women-only weekend Sept. 16 and 17 at Walborn Reservoir, 11324 Price St. NE. Activities will include boating (weather permitting), crafts, archery, campfire, and the annual Wild Outdoor Women Dash. The weekend begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and will conclude Sunday at 1 p.m.

Advance registration is required. Participants should bring their own tent. Campfires will be available for cooking. The cost is $40 for Stark County residents and $45 for nonresidents. More information and registration can be found at www.StarkParks.com.

History Discussion Group topic is fall songs

MASSILLON − The Massillon Museum’s History Discussion Group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday. Moderator Chris Craft will lead a discussion about favorite fall songs from the past.

The History Discussion Group meets the first Tuesday of each month in the Fred F. Silk Community Room at the museum, 121 Lincoln Way E. No reservations are necessary. Attendance is free and open to everyone.

Yankee Peddler Festival next three weekends

NORTH LAWRENCE − The 50th annual Yankee Peddler Festival at Clay's Park Resort, 12951 Patterson St. NW, will be 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sept. 10, 16-17, 23-24. Artists and crafters will make and sell their wares in a rustic setting. Visitors can sample food from colonial days cooked over open fires. Stark Parks plans Wildlife Rehabilitation Camp

PERRY TWP. − The Stark Parks Wildlife Rehabilitation Camp will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 19 through 21 at the Wildlife Conservation Center, 800 Genoa Ave NW (west side of Sippo Lake Park).

Participants must be 16 to 18 years old by Sept. 19. All participants must complete the Stark Parks volunteer application and volunteer waiver at https://tinyurl.com/2965aapj by Sept. 15 to attend.
