Kids can play bingo at library Monday

Veterans wellness and resource event Aug. 26 in downtown Canton

CANTON − VetFest, a wellness and information event for veterans and their families, will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Aug. 26 in Centennial Plaza, 330 Court Ave. NW.VetFest will have representation from the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Service Commission, Patriot Project, Team RWB, Stark State College, local companies hiring and Ohio Means Jobs. Beyond Expectations Barber College, a sponsor of VetFest, will give veterans free haircuts.

All veterans, active and reserve military, and their families are invited to VetFest. More than 25 artists will feature jewelry, metalworks, pottery and ceramics, photography, watercolors and mixed media, fabric and unique paper creations and performance art. Uniontown Lions Club Festival Wednesday through Sunday

HARTVILLE – The Uniontown Lions Club will hold its annual festival Wednesday through Saturday at the HRM Complex adjacent to the Hartville Marketplace to raise funds for the support of its various community service and outreach programs.

There will be food, rides, games, instant bingo, bingo, 50/50 drawing and entertainment every day. On Wednesday, the festival opens at 6 p.m. The band La Flavour will perform ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s music from 7 to 10:15 p.m. On Thursday, the festival opens at 6 p.m. A hymn sing with local churches will be from 6:30 to 8:20 p.m. Better Monday will perform soft rock music from 9 to 10:15 p.m.

On Friday, the festival opens at 6 p.m., the car show begins at 5 p.m. and country singer Dustin Hines will perform from 7 to 10:15 p.m. On Saturday, the parade will be at 5 p.m., with the festival opening following the parade. The Lake High School Band will perform at 7 p.m., and Gerald Harris the Entertainer will perform jazz, oldies and Motown from 9 to 10:15 p.m. Fireworks will be at 10:30 p.m.

The festival theme is “Eye Care.” The grand marshals for this year’s festival will be Lake Township schoolchildren representing children who have had their vision screened in school. The Lions Club will assist Lake Local Schools with future vision screenings.

Writing circle Saturday at Massillon Museum

MASSILLON − The Massillon Museum, 121 Lincoln Way E, will offer a writing circle with Expanding Circles from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Tiger Kickoff Pep Rally, free ice cream Wednesday

MASSILLON − The Massillon Museum will help celebrate the beginning of the 2023 Massillon Tiger football season with free orange-and-black ice cream following the Tiger Kickoff Pep Rally at Duncan Plaza, which begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Tiger-Striped Ice Cream Night, co-hosted by the Massillon Tiger Football Booster Club and the Massillon Museum, has become part of Massillon’s football tradition.

The rally and the ice cream cones are free for everyone; no reservations are required. Fans will follow the team and the band from Duncan Plaza to the Massillon Museum lawn, where members of the Massillon Museum and the Massillon Tiger Football Booster Club will serve chocolate-flavored ice cream. Charles Paquelet of the Booster Club worked with Handel’s Ice Cream prior to the 2004 football season to create an orange-and-black marbled treat to serve after the Downtown Massillon Association’s annual pep rally.

Congresswoman Sykes to speak at Walsh University

Golf scramble fundraiser is Saturday

WASHINGTON TWP. − The 14th annual Chipping in for Our Kids Annual Golf Scramble to support Stark County Citizens for Children Services will take place Saturday at Pleasant View Golf Club, 14605 Louisville St. NE, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
