Canal Fulton library plans programs

CANAL FULTON – The Canal Fulton Public Library, 154 E. Market St., has announced the following programs. To register, stop by the information desk or call the library at 330-854-4148.

  • WASP’s, B-29’s and Sacrifices, 6 p.m. Monday: Bob Richmond will share the history of the Women Airforce Service Pilot program, the development of the B-29 and the battle for Iwo Jima. How are they related? Registration is appreciated but not required.

  • Teen Pizza and Game Night, 5:30 p.m. Tuesday: Games, pizza, and snacks for teens and tweens. Registration is appreciated, but not required.

The Children’s Department has scheduled the following programs:

  • Book-Themed Mini Golf, 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday: Choose your tee time and do your best to get a hole in one in the library’s literary themed five-hole course. Tee times will be every 15 minutes. All ages welcome. Registration is required.

  • Digestion and You, 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday: Learn how your body breaks down food in your stomach and intestines. For grades K-5. Registration is required.

  • Diverse Designs: Multicultural Art, 5 to 6 p.m. Friday: Each month we discuss an artist from a diverse background and create artwork inspired by the artist’s style. This month we will discuss artist Frida Kahlo. This event is for all ages but recommended for ages 3 and up. Registration is required.

CommQuest Taste of Hope fundraiser April 19

CANTON – CommQuest Services will present the second annual Taste of Hope, an event to help fund its mission to save lives with mental health, addiction recovery and social support services.

The event features some of the best local restaurants in the area in a social atmosphere with live musical entertainment and an auction. Taste of Hope will be held at 6 p.m. April 19 at the Metropolitan Centre, 601 Cleveland Ave. NW. CommQuest Services will also recognize team and community members going above and beyond to help those in need.

Tickets are $125, and $75 of each ticket goes directly to support CommQuest’s mission. Buy tickets at www.commquest.org/toh23 or call 330-994-1455.

Anyone can sign up for the online auction using the event link without purchasing an event ticket, but some items will be available only to event attendees. The online auction will begin Saturday and end when the event concludes.

Sneaker Expo at Civic Center

CANTON − The Stark County Sneaker Expo will be from noon to 6 p.m. April 16 at the Memorial Civic Center, 1101 Market Ave. N.

There will be vendors, raffles, giveaways and food. For tickets or vendor tables, go to @rockorstock_shoes on Instagram or email John at shoemanking@gmail.com. Tickets will be sold at the door for this event. Prices are $20 for 18 and older, and $10 for those younger than 18.

Dance is April 2

CANTON − Canton Country Music will have a dance at the Polish American Club, 1605 Henry Ave. SW, on April 2. Pat Massie & PM Country Band will provide music. Doors open at 1 p.m., and music is from 2 to 5 p.m. Admission is $3 at the door. The dance is open to the public. Food is available, as well as 50/50 drawing and lottery tree. There is no dance on April 9.

Learn about early life in Jackson Township

JACKSON TWP. – The Jackson Township Historical Society, 7756 Fulton Drive NW, will hold an open house “Life in the Township 1818-1920" from 1 to 4 p.m. April 2.

Items and pictures of families, businesses, maps and schools will be displayed. Activities include vintage games, listening to a 1916 Victrola and children can try on vintage clothes. Members will be available to answer questions.

A representative from the Department of Veterans Affairs will be available to answer veterans’ questions. The Canton Daughters of the American Revolution will be pinning Vietnam Veterans who have not received their Commemorative Pin.

Admission is $5 (ages 14 and up). Members get in free.

Quail Hollow Herbal Society to meet

LAKE TWP. – The Quail Hollow Herbal Society will meet in the Manor House library at Quail Hollow Park 13480 Congress Lake Ave. at 2 p.m. April 2.

Stark Soil & Water Conservation District sets pond workshop, tree sale

MASSILLON – Stark Soil and Water Conservation District will host a Pond Workshop from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the USDA Service Center, 2650 Richville Drive SE.

Alec Hillyer, aquatic biologist, with Dynamic Lake and Land Management, will present information on managing your pond so you can improve its visual appeal and overall ecological health. Make your reservation at www.starkswcd.org or call the district at 330-451-7645.

The district also is accepting orders for its annual tree sale. Trees are pre-sale only. Print an order form by visiting starkswcd.org. Payment must accompany the order. Order deadline is April 7.

Learn to weave

MASSILLON – The Massillon Museum, 121 Lincoln Way E, will present a Weaving Do the Mu on Saturday. Instructor Allison Smith will teach the basics of weaving on a small frame loom and how to build simple patterns such as stripes and basketweave. Guests can drop in anytime between noon and 2 p.m.

All ages are welcome, and all supplies will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring additional alternative materials to explore weaving with, such as fabric strips, paper, and plastic bags. For more information, call the museum at 330-833-4061 or visit massillonmuseum.org.

Accessible Expressions Ohio exhibit at Massillon Museum

MASSILLON – The Massillon Museum will exhibit Accessible Expressions Ohio in its Aultman Health Foundation Gallery through May 7.

The show is produced by Art Possible Ohio, the state agency on art and disability. The museum will host a free public reception for the Accessible Expressions Ohio artists from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The adjudicated, statewide exhibition and tour of art includes the creative work of 60 Ohio artists with disabilities. Artists of any age with a disability who live in Ohio may enter in the youth, emerging, or professional categories.

This year, artists were also given the option to submit artwork in a special category – family — one of the themes represented in this April’s Massillon Museum Big Read celebration, which focuses on the book “Interior Chinatown” by Charles Yu.

Brown Bag Lunch program topic is Lake Erie birds

MASSILLON – Jen Brumfield, a naturalist with Cleveland Metroparks, will present “Birding on Boats: Secrets of Lake Erie Birds” at the Brown Bag Lunch program at the Massillon Museum, 121 Lincoln Way E, from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. Tuesday.

The Brown Bag Lunch series is free and open to everyone. Guests may bring lunch or purchase sandwiches, salads and smoothies at Greatness Cafe in the Museum lobby. Massillon Museum provides cookies and coffee to all attendees. For more information, call 330-833-4061 or visit massillonmuseum.org.

Kitten shower at library Saturday

NORTH CANTON – The North Canton Public Library, 185 N. Main St., will host a Purrs and Paws Kitten Shower from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The event will benefit Paws Fur Life and Cats Cradle of Stark County. Attendees are asked to bring a gift from the event’s Amazon or Target registries. Attendees will enjoy traditional baby shower food and fun and can meet adoptable cats and kittens. Children are welcome.

Shred and e-cycle event Saturday

PERRY TWP. − The Better Business Bureau is offering a free community shred and e-cycle event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Central Catholic High School, 4824 Tuscarawas St. W.

Businesses and individuals can bring documents that list personal or financial information to be commercially shredded onsite. E-cycling of electronics will also be available. Items may include: batteries, cable, cellphones, circuit boards, computers, game consoles, ink and toner cartridges, IT equipment, keyboards, laptops, modems and monitors. Items with a disposal fee are monitors, flat screens only, $5; TVs, flat screens only, $10; fluorescent lightbulbs, $1 for four feet or smaller, $2 for eight feet.

There is no charge for this event, however monetary donations to the BBB Charitable & Educational Fund Inc. are welcome and appreciated to continue to provide this service.

Wilmot Fire and Rescue ham dinner April 2

WILMOT − The Wilmot Fire and Rescue benefit April ham dinner will be April 2, with curbside carryout only from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the front of the Wilmot Fire Department, 204 Mill St. Volunteers will bring meals to your vehicle.

Dinners are $10 each and feature ham, homemade scalloped potatoes, green beans, applesauce, coleslaw and dinner roll. Delivery within the village is available; call 330-359-5995. Please bring correct change. All proceeds benefit Wilmot Fire and Rescue, a volunteer department.
