Fatherhood Coalition hosts free movie night

ALLIANCE − The Stark County Fatherhood Coalition will host a free family movie night Friday at the Family Matters Resource Center, 425 E. Market St. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the movie will begin at 6:30 p.m. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Registration is required; call 330-451-8477.

The movie “Courageous Legacy,” rated PG-13, tells the story of four law enforcement officers facing the challenge of fatherhood. This event is sponsored in partnership with Family Empowerment Ministries Inc.

Celebration of Neighborhoods

CANTON − The Stark County Neighborhood Partnership Program will present the 2023 Celebration of Neighborhoods and Meet the Candidates event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Timken Commons, 521 Tuscarawas St. W.

The free, public event will feature display tables by local neighborhood associations and campaign tables of local incumbents and candidates. It will be a reception/meet-and-greet format with limited appetizers and beverages.

Stark Vintage Market at fairgrounds

CANTON − Stark Vintage Market, an antiques and artisan market, will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Stark County Fairgrounds, 305 Wertz Ave. NW.

Joint health open house in Canton

CANTON − Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health and the Margaret Shipley Child Health Clinic will host a joint open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at 919 Second St. NE.

Community members can meet staff from both nonprofit agencies, take guided tours of both agencies and enjoy light refreshments. No reservations are required to attend. Parking is available in the agency parking lot on Third Street or the adjacent lot at Third Street and Cornell Avenue NE.

Goodwill Industries offers new employment service

CANTON − Goodwill Industries Missions Services is now offering a new employment service, in partnership with Ohio Means Jobs. The Huntington Community Employment Room at the Ken Weber Community Campus at 408 Ninth St. SW is now open to the public for employment assistance.

In the community room, Goodwill Missions offers employment help, including assistance in applying for jobs, creating resumes, searching for jobs and more employment-related assistance.

The Huntington Community Employment Room is open for walk-ins on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The room is available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays.

Goodwill Mission Services offers eight pre-employment services and seven job-placement services.

Genealogical group to meet

CANTON − The Stark County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will host a program at 6 p.m. Oct. 19 by Carolyn Caskey on the Fairmount Children’s Home.

The home was in Washington Township from 1876 to 1975. A brief meeting will follow at the North Branch Library, 189 25th St. NW, in the basement meeting room. All are invited to attend.

Abortion-loss support group for men

CANTON − Arrows, an abortion-loss support group for men, will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The informal, drop-in group meets at 7 pm on the second Wednesday of each month. For location and more information, call or text 330-834-8224. The support group is designed for men and will be led by men.

Ghost investigation event at the Palace

CANTON − The Spirits of the Palace Ghost Investigation will be from 10:30 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday at the Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N. The Spirits of the Palace Ghost Investigation tour, led by Team S.P.E.C.T.R.E, is limited to 30 people.

Attendees must be at least 13 years old to participate, and those younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Cameras and recording equipment are encouraged. Electric Light Orchestra Tribute at the Lincoln

MASSILLON − The Lions Lincoln Theatre, 156 Lincoln Way E, will host Into the Blue - Electric Light Orchestra Tribute at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. "Into the Blue," an 11-piece Electric Light Orchestra Tribute band, will perform ELO's hits with strings from the Tuscarawas Philharmonic.

Forum for North Canton school board candidates is Wednesday

NORTH CANTON − The League of Women Voters of the Canton Area is hosting a public forum for North Canton school board candidates at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Community Christian Church, 210 N. Main St.

Lake Center Christian School, Louisville Public Library receive grants

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded youth literacy grants of $3,500 to Lake Center Christian School and $3,000 to the Louisville Public Library.

Each year, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation provides financial support to schools, nonprofit organizations and libraries within a 15-mile radius of Dollar General stores and distribution centers. The funds purchase books, technology, equipment or materials for K-12 students.

Applications for the 2024 Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant cycle will be available at www.dgliteracy.org in January.

New online resource for veterans available

Veterans Guide (https://veteransguide.org/) is an online resource hub dedicated to providing valuable information and support for veterans and their families.

It offers a wide range of resources, including articles, guides and tools, to help veterans navigate various aspects of their post-military life, such as health care, education, employment and benefits.
