Mount Union schedules concerts

ALLIANCE – The University of Mount Union has scheduled the following concerts. All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise indicated.

  • Monday: The Mount Union Jazz Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. on the Hoover Price Campus Center campus grounds patio.

  • Wednesday: The Concert Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Brush Performance Hall in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts.

  • Saturday: The choral groups Kantorei, Men’s Ensemble and Cantus will perform at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 427 E. Broadway St.

  • April 30: The Mount Union Alliance Chorale will present its spring concert at 3 p.m. in Brush Performance Hall in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts. General admission tickets are $8 and free for all children, students and Mount Union faculty and staff. Student and child tickets must be ordered in person or by phone at 330-821-2565. Tickets are also available online at mountunion.edu/boxoffice.

Enter drawing at library

ALLIANCE − Rodman Public Library, 215 E. Broadway St., is holding a special drawing this week for a $50 Amazon gift card or a family day pass to Funtimes Fun Park in Alliance for National Library Week.

Cardholders who borrow any materials will get an entry into the drawing. Winners will be chosen in May.

Library plans programs

CANAL FULTON – The Canal Fulton Public Library, 154 E. Market St., will offer the following programs:

  • Monday at 6 p.m.: Cricut - Iron-on Bags. Learn how to create a personalized tote bag using Cricut Design Space along with the library’s Cricut and Cricut Press. All materials will be provided. Registration is required.

  • Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.: Teen Pizza and Game Night. Games, pizza, and snacks for teens and tweens, grades 6-12. Registration is appreciated, but not required.

  • Wednesday at 6 p.m.: PJ Storytime: Books, rhymes and songs. Pajamas are encouraged, but not required. Ages birth-12. Registration is required.

  • Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m.: Kids' Pokemon Club. Join other Pokémon enthusiasts and bring your cards. For grades K-5. Registration is required.

  • Friday at 10 a.m.: STEM for Tiny Hands. Children ages 2 to 5, with the help of a parent or caregiver will use their hands to explore S.T.E.M concepts and activities. Registration is required.

Arbor Day celebration is Friday

CANTON – The city will have its 10th annual Arbor Day celebration Friday to celebrate the importance of trees and encourage all Canton residents to enjoy the city’s park system. This is a family-friendly event.

As in past Arbor Day celebrations, a dogwood tree will be planted at the Canton Garden Center at Stadium Park. The tree, donated by Rice’s Landscapes Redefined, will be planted by arborist Richard Drake and Rice’s representatives.

The Canton Tree Commission, with the support of Canton Parks and Recreation, the Canton Engineering Department and American Electric Power, will give away tree seedlings from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Canton Garden Center. Arbor Day posters created by second-grade students from the Arts Academy at Summit will be on display.

Aultman Women's Board Angel Auction is May 13

CANTON – The Women's Board of Aultman Hospital will hold its annual Angel Auction on May 13 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center. The theme, “Angels in Tuscany: A Night Under the Stars,” is designed to transport guests to the Italian region.

All proceeds will go toward the Women’s Board’s $3 million pledge for surgical suite enhancements at Aultman Hospital, including equipment and services that will benefit patients and their overall experiences.

The event will include entertainment, dining, and silent and live auctions. Co-chairing this year's Angel Auction are Lori Martino and Carman D'Agostino.

Hunger Task Force charity art auction is Saturday

CANTON – Stark County Hunger Task Force will hold its eighth annual charity art auction, Palette 2 Palate, from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Zimmermann Symphony Center, 2331 17th St NW.

Attendees can bid on donated works by local artists, as well as silent and live auction items, and enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres and desserts with a cash bar. All proceeds support the organization's local initiatives to fight hunger.

Ballet performances Friday and Saturday

CANTON TWP. – A Time to Dance Junior Co. in North Canton, will present “Mary Poppins” in ballet at 7 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Canton South High School Performing Arts Center, 600 Faircrest St. SE. Tickets ($12.50) are available at http://buy.tututix.com/attdoh.

Fishing Day set at Jackson North Park pond

JACKSON TWP. – The Jackson Township Parks and Recreation Division will host the annual Fishing Day from 8 to 10 a.m. May 6 at the Jackson North Park pond.

Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. The Fishing Day is for ages 15 and younger. Children should bring their own fishing pole and bait. The township will stock the pond for this event and prizes will also be awarded. All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

This is a free event, but registration is required. Registration forms must be received by 4 p.m. May 5. Get registration forms at the Jackson Township Administration Building or by visiting www.jacksontwp.com/parks-recreation-division.

The pond will reopen to adults and the public for fishing starting at 10 a.m.

American Legion Family Day is next Sunday

MASSILLON – American Legion Massillon Post 221 will host its Legion Family Day from 1 to 6 p.m. April 30 at the post’s front parking lot, 427 Lincoln Way E. There will be food, bounce houses, corn hole and other games for adults and children.

Massillon Museum plans Art Happy Hour

MASSILLON – The Massillon Museum’s Art Happy Hour from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday will feature a ceramic mug demonstration by Taylor Sijan and P.J. Hargraves. Attendees will see approaches to wheel-throwing, hand-building, handle-making, and trimming.

The program is open to all adults and is suitable for all skill levels. The fee is $10 per person. Art Happy Hour is free for Massillon Museum and Canton Ceramic Artists Guild members, as well as students with a valid ID. Register at www.MassMu.org/Tickets or by calling 330-833-4061.

St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church to host Coronation Watch

MASSILLON − St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 226 Third St. SE, will host a Coronation Watch on May 6 to view the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.

Doors open at 6 a.m. Guests can enjoy a full English breakfast and champagne toast.

The coronation will be streamed from Westminster Abbey in London. Call the church office at 330-833-3183 to be placed on the guest list. Everyone is welcome.

Comedian at the Roxy

MINERVA – Minerva’s Roxy Theatre, 114 N. Market St., and Krackpots Comedy Club of Massillon will present comedian Pete George at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Tickets are general admission, with a limited number of front-row/VIP seats, and can be purchased at www.eventbrite.com.

Downtown restaurants will be open throughout the evening, and concessions and a food truck will be available at the theater. The village’s Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area will be in effect from 5 to 10 p.m.
