Stark Countian to participate in AgriPOWER Institute

BEACH CITY – Alicia McCracken of Beach City is one of 14 farmers and agribusiness professionals selected to participate in the Ohio Farm Bureau’s 2023-24 AgriPOWER Institute.

AgriPOWER is designed for farmers and agribusiness professionals. It focuses on public issues that are relevant to the food industry such as consumer relations, regulations, energy and trade policies. In AgriPOWER, individuals develop the skills necessary to become effective leaders and advocates for agriculture by learning from experts in these fields.

McCracken is an outbound sales representative with PBS Animal Health with over 400 customers, primarily dairy, throughout the United States. She was born and raised on her family’s dairy farm in Louisville. She participated in 4-H and FFA in high school, as well as serving as an FFA state officer. She received an associate degree in dairy production and management from the Ohio State University ATI campus in Wooster.

Free carryout Thanksgiving meals available

CANTON − The Basilica of St. John the Baptist and St. Peter Church will provide free carryout-only Thanksgiving meals from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving day at St. John Hall at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist, 627 McKinley Ave. NW. Anyone can come and pick up multiple meals.

Athlete, author Zion Clark to be at Palace Theatre

CANTON – Athlete and author Zion Clark returns home for "No Excuses,” a night of inspiration, motivation and celebration at the Palace Theatre on Nov. 29.

Clark, who was born without legs and initially raised in the foster care system, holds three Guinness Records, is the subject of an award-winning Netflix documentary, and recently performed on “America’s Got Talent.”

Alzheimer's caregiver relief program accepting applications

CANTON – The Alzheimer’s Association Cleveland Area and Greater East Ohio chapters are offering Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers in Stark and Cuyahoga counties relief through the Jan & Josephine Castora Family Caregiver Relief Program.

The program helps those who provide daily care for someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia and don’t have the means to hire a home care provider. The association connects families with authorized home care agency aides, who offer free non-medical in-home care for the person living with the disease so the caregiver can run errands, attend doctor appointments or enjoy hobbies.

Christopher Cugini joins Prevention Action Alliance board

CANTON – Prevention Action Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing substance misuse and promoting mental health wellness, elected Christopher L. Cugini of Canton to its board of directors at the organization’s annual meeting in August.

Cugini received a master of public health degree from Kent State University and a bachelor's in communication and political science from the University of Mount Union. He is the program management consultant for the Department of Commerce, Office of Acquisition Management for OMNI Consulting Solutions, and is an adjunct professor at Aultman College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Regional Walks to End Alzheimer’s raise $1.375 million

CANTON – More than 6,300 Northeast Ohioans participating in this year’s Walks to End Alzheimer’s walked 17,684 miles, raising more than $1.375 million for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s supports the association’s free educational programs and support groups, Alzheimer’s care services and advancements in treatment and research.

Black Friday fine forgiveness at library

NORTH CANTON – To kick off the holiday season, the North Canton Public Library will host a Black Friday promotion. Anyone visiting the library during open hours Nov. 24 can have their library fines up to $24.99 eliminated.

Winterfest is Dec. 2 on North Canton square

NORTH CANTON – Winterfest will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2.

The event on the square will feature Santa and Mrs. Claus arriving on a firetruck, train rides, music, costumed characters, cocktails and Christmas Ale, food trucks, and a winter wonderland holiday market at City Hall.

Perry History Club to meet Monday

PERRY TWP. − The Perry History Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the Perry Township Police Department, 622 Genoa Ave SW, with Richard Haldi speaking on "The Great American Songbook." This is a look at Irving Berlin, who wrote "White Christmas," and American popular music's Jewish foundation. A business meeting will follow.

Register for Perry Rotary Turkey Trot 5K

PERRY TWP. – Perry Township Rotarians and the Perry community will host the 27th annual Perry Township Rotary Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning.

It is a 5K Run/Walk, Competitive Walk, & Little Gobbler Run at Central Catholic High School, 4824 Tuscarawas St. W, on Nov. 23.

Nature's A-Glow opens Friday

WASHINGTON TWP. – Nature's A-Glow at Beech Creek Botanical Gardens, 11929 Beech St NE, is from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 24 through Dec. 23 every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Dec. 26-30.

Christmas lights turn the botanical garden into the winter wonderland with over 350,000 lights, dozens of displays, and hands-on activities. Admission to Nature’s A-Glow is $13. Beech Creek members admission is $6.50, and children ages 2 and younger receive free admission. For more information, visit www.beechcreekgardens.org.
