‘Sounds of Christmas’ concert Dec. 4 at Mount Union

ALLIANCE – The Mount Union Alliance Chorale’s concert, “Sounds of Christmas,” will be held at 3 p.m. Dec. 4 in Brush Performance Hall in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts on the University of Mount Union campus.

Special guests will be the Dover High School Treble Choir. The Mount Union Alliance Chorale includes a combination of community members and University of Mount Union students and faculty.

Tickets are $8 and free for all students. They can be purchased at mountunion.edu/boxoffice, by phone at 330-821-2565 or in-person from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday when classes are in session and one hour prior to the start of the performance.

Holiday Open House returns to McKinley Museum

CANTON – The McKinley Presidential Library & Museum, 800 McKinley Monument Drive NW, will host the annual Holiday Open House from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

The event features a meet and greet with Santa, cookies, punch and holiday decorations throughout the museum. This event is free to members and $5 for nonmembers; registration is not required. The museum gift shop will also be open. Tickets can be purchased at mckinleymuseum.org or at the door.

Holiday movies at the Palace

CANTON – The Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N, will present “The Polar Express” at 7 p.m. Friday as part of the 2022 Holiday Movie Series. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and admission is $2. For more information, visit cantonpalacetheatre.org.

CANTON – The 720 Market will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center, 1101 Market Ave. N.

More than 100 local makers, bakers, brewers and growers will participate. There will be food trucks, music and family-friendly fun.

Holiday dinner at the McKinley Museum

CANTON – The McKinley Presidential Library & Museum, 800 McKinley Monument Drive NW, will be hosting the second annual holiday dinner in the Street of Shops on Dec. 9.

Tickets are $55 for members and $60 for nonmembers for a choice of entree and two drinks. Tables are available for two, four and six members, but tickets must be purchased together.

Canton Country Music announces events

CANTON − Canton Country Music has announced the Jim Davidson Band featuring Dianna McDowell will play Dec. 4, and the Country Styles Band will play Dec. 11 at the Polish American Club, 1605 Henry Ave. SW.

Admission is $3 at the door. Doors open at 1 p.m., and music is from 2 to 5 p.m. The events are open to the public. There is a 50-50 drawing and lottery tree.

The Christmas party is Dec. 11. Canton Country Music will provide chicken, but asks each person to bring a side dish or dessert that is enough to feed about 15 people or to pay $5 to help with expenses.

Gospel family group to perform

HARTVILLE – The gospel music group The Kramers will perform a dinner concert Dec. 8 at Hartville Kitchen, 1015 Edison St. NW.

Jackson Township offers Santa’s Mailbox

JACKSON TWP. – Jackson Township Parks are preparing for the Santa’s Mailbox program this holiday season. Santa’s Mailbox will be in front of the entrance to the Jackson Township Administration Building, 5735 Wales Ave. NW.

Children can drop off their letters to Santa in the mailbox addressed to the North Pole between Thursday and Dec. 16. Letters received by 2 p.m. Dec. 16 will receive a response from Santa. Children should include their names and addresses on their letters. Letters must be dropped off personally. Letters sent through the mail will not receive a response.

History Discussion Group, children’s holiday party at museum

MASSILLON − The Massillon Museum’s History Discussion Group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 6 in the museum’s Fred F. Silk Community Room to discuss and share stories about “Grandma’s Household Chores.”

The event is free, and no reservations are required. Coffee and sweets will be available for a donation.

MajesticVoice Chorus to perform

Massillon library holiday children’s program is Dec. 5

MASSILLON − The Massillon Public Library, 208 Lincoln Way E, will host Santa's Magical Christmas, the annual holiday children’s program, at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5 in the Main Library auditorium.

Free Advent organ recital at St. Timothy’s Church

MASSILLON − St. Timothy’s Church, 226 Third St. SE, will host a free Advent organ recital by Chad Pittman from noon to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Everyone is welcome.

St. Timothy’s remaining Wednesday Advent organ recitals will feature Loren C. Veigel, Michael Lewis and Levi Muriuki. Each will be followed by the mid-week worship service at 12:30, which guests are welcome to attend.

Candlelight Walk is Dec. 4

MASSILLON − Massillon’s Candlelight Walk among the historic buildings of downtown Massillon will be 4 to 9 p.m. Dec. 4. A pre-walk concert will be from 4 to 5 p.m. at Grace United Church of Christ, 933 Main Ave. W.

Many downtown-area churches will offer musical entertainment, and several venues will be open for visitors, including the Massillon Museum (which will offer refreshments from 5 to 7:30 p.m.), the Massillon Public Library and Five Oaks/Massillon Woman's Club.

Historic Fourth Street will be lined with luminarias. The walk is free and open to all. Start anywhere, make your own route and set your own pace. For more information, call 330-832-8469.

Open house set for Minerva police

MINERVA − The Minerva Police Department will have an employment open house from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday. The department has one full-time patrolman’s position available. Starting hourly wage is $23.67 to $24.17, plus a full benefit package.

No appointment is necessary. People can fill out an application, take a tour of the department and meet with the Police Chief Christopher Miller. Applicants must have a current police ID and Ohio driver’s license for a tour.

Home tour in Salem

SALEM − Six of Salem’s homes will be opening to the public next weekend as part of the Salem Federation of Women’s Clubs Christmas Tour. Each home is decorated for the holidays. Tickets are $20. The tour will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 4.

Tickets can be purchased in Salem at the Salem Computer Center on Second Street, Wild City Bird and Feed on Broadway, and at Nature and Nurture and a Taste of Gracious Living, both on State Street. Tickets will also be sold at Consign and Design in Poland, Ohio.

The day of the tour, tickets will be sold at the Salem Federation of Women’s Clubs – Smucker House at 271 South Broadway.
