Canal Fulton library plans events

CANAL FULTON – The Canal Fulton Public Library, 154 E. Market St., has scheduled the following events. Registration is required. For more information or to register, call 330-854-4148 or visit www.canalfultonlibrary.org.

  • Mason Jars Luminaries, 6-7 p.m. Jan. 19: Using the library's Cricut and frosted vinyl, create a snowman-themed luminary with mason jars. For grades K-5.

  • Canal Boat Celebration! 10-11 a.m. Jan. 21: Learn about the early 19th century though, games, crafts, snacks and canal boats. Recommended for children ages 3 and up.

  • Interactive Family Storytime, 6-7 p.m. Jan. 25: Stories, songs, and sensory play during this family-friendly story hour. January’s theme is transportation. All ages are welcome.

  • Lego Free Play, 6-7 p.m. Jan. 26: Use your engineering abilities to make Lego creations. For grades K-5.

  • STEM for Tiny Hands, 10-11 a.m. Jan. 27: Children with the help of a parent or caregiver will use their tiny hands to explore S.T.E.M. and activities. The theme is wind and snow. This program is filled with hands-on activities that include materials that may be messy or wet. Children ages 2-5 with caregiver are welcome.

The library’s Information Department also has scheduled the following events:

  • Genealogy Databases, 6 p.m. Monday: Discover how the library’s databases can help you learn more about your family history. Please register in advance. To register, stop by the Information Desk or call the library at 330-854-4148. This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the State Library of Ohio.

  • Adult and Teen Planner Club, 11 a.m. Saturday: This program is all about finding the right planner for you, and helping you determine which goals to prioritize in the upcoming year.

Harlem Globetrotters coming to Civic Center

CANTON – The Harlem Globetrotters 2023 World Tour will be at the Canton Civic Center, 1101 Market Ave. N, at 7 p.m. Jan. 23. The Globetrotters will play the Washington Generals.

Award Nominated Film Series at Palace Theatre

CANTON – The Canton Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N, will present the year’s top award-nominated films on Canton’s largest screen during the 2023 Award Nominated Film Series.

“Tár” will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The film centers on Lydia Tár, widely considered one of the greatest living composer-conductors and first female music director of a major German orchestra. Doors open at 7 p.m. General admission is $7. Tickets available at the door. This film is rated R.

Support groups forming

CANTON – Hope and Healing, 4500 22nd St. NW, is forming several support groups for women. Register or schedule an appointment at info@hopefordeeperhealing.com or text 330-834-8224. Groups are free to attend. Facilitators are not professional licensed counselors. However, referrals are available upon request.

  • Refuge (healing for grief issues): 6 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 17 to March 15.

  • Abortion healing: 6 p.m. Thursdays from Jan. 19 to March 24.

  • Women of Worth After Abortion Support meeting: 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month, starting Jan. 18. No registration required.

  • Unbound (healing from sexual past): Virtual, to be announced, 13 weeks. Text or call for more information.

Homeschooling Open House is Friday

EAST CANTON – The Stark County District Library’s East Canton branch, 224 N. Wood St., will have a Homeschooling Open House from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Attendees can learn about the resources and programs the library has to offer homeschoolers, meet and mingle with other families and share their homeschooling experiences.

Sports Card Show is Saturday

HARTVILLE – Hartville Marketplace and Flea Market, 1289 Edison St. NW, will have a Sports Card Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Farmers market at church

JACKSON TWP. − St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church, 4600 Fulton Drive NW, will host an indoor farmers market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Featured items include breads, candy, cheese and goat milk, rolls, honey, apples and apple butter, bee products, beef products, wooden toys, essential oils, home grown popcorn, cupcakes, chipotle seasoning, soups, cookies, homegrown plants, candles, and micro greens.

The café will be serving homemade vegetable soup to eat in or take home by the quart. The Aultman Hospital WOW van will visit, with tips for a healthy new year.

Massillon Museum sets open house

MASSILLON – The Massillon Museum, 121 Lincoln Way E, will have a 90th Anniversary Open House and Expansion Dedication from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Jan 13.

The ribbon cutting will be at 5:30 p.m. The event will mark two milestones — 90 years of serving the community and the culmination of Massillon Museum’s expansion project. Admission is free. For more information, call 330-833-4061 or visit www.massillonmuseum.org.

Family Clay workshop Jan. 15

MASSILLON – The Massillon Museum, 121 Lincoln Way E, will host a family clay workshop from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 15 in the Ceramics Studio. Registration is limited and can be completed at MassillonMuseum.org/Tickets or by calling 330-833-4061.

The fee, $20 per person ($15 for Massillon Museum members), includes all supplies. Registration is separate for each workshop date.

Speaker to share story of stalking

NORTH CANTON – As part of Stalking Awareness Month, Walsh University, 2020 East Maple St., will host a guest lecture by Debbie Riddle, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Barrette Business and Community Center.

Riddle has worked with the National Center for Victims of Crime and the Stalking Resource Center, Erin Brockovich and Lifetime Television, and stalking expert Mark Wynn over the past 16 years to spread awareness. Riddle also spoke at a congressional briefing in Washington, D.C., to request recognition of January as Stalking Awareness Month and at the 10-year anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act conference.

Stalking is a crime and a topic that is personal to Riddle. Her sister Peggy Klinke was murdered by her stalker on Jan. 18, 2003.
