Teen Winterfest Carnival at library Tuesday

CANAL FULTON – The Canal Fulton Public Library, 154 E. Market St., will host a Teen Winterfest Carnival at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The event will include carnival games, snacks, and prizes for teens and tweens. Registration is appreciated, but not required. TIPS server training offered to local businesses

CANTON – The Stark County Sheriff’s Office Safe Communities Coalition will offer free TIPS server training to local businesses from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 24 at the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, 4500 Atlantic Blvd. NE.

The training is for businesses and personnel that sell or serve alcohol. The training may help protect from DUI/OVI liability, help lower insurance premiums, and help prevent liquor sales to minors. TIPS trains servers, sellers, and consumers of alcohol how to prevent intoxication, drunken driving, and underage drinking.

Refreshments will be provided. Participants must be present for the full three-hour session. Space is limited, and reservations are required. Contact Laura Miller at 330-430-3835 or by e-mail at 207@starksheriff.org to register. Provide the names of all employees who will attend.

Tea with the Curator, Science Saturday at museum

CANTON – The Wm. McKinley Presidential Library & Museum, 800 McKinley Monument Drive NW, will host Tea with the Curator at 10 a.m. March 7. The topic will be “Canton’s Women: Celebrating the Contributions of our Foremothers.”

Executive Director Kim Kenney will look back at the contributions women have made to Canton’s history over the past 200 years, using archival documents and photographs from the museum’s collection.

The Tea with the Curator series includes breakfast sweets, coffee/tea, a program, and admission to the museum. Cost is $20 per person. Pre-registration is required. Call 330-455-7043 for reservations.

The museum also will host Science Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Participants will learn about all of the creatures found in the state’s wetlands, the migratory birds that come into Ohio during the beginning of spring, and how wetlands are vital to humans. Activities and crafts will be available for kids of all ages.

Irish step dancers to perform at Palace

CANTON − The Rhythm of the Dance, an Irish step dance show, will be at the Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N, at 7 p.m. March 15.

Stamp club show next weekend

JACKSON TWP. − The McKinley Stamp Club of Canton is holding its 92nd annual stamp show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 5 at the St. George Serbian Orthodox Social Hall, 4667 Applegrove St. NW.

Quail Hollow Herbal Society meets March 5

LAKE TWP. − The Quail Hollow Herbal Society will meet at 2 p.m. March 5 at the Quail Hollow Manor Library, 13480 Congress Lake Ave. Herbs of the month are nasturtium, borage and shamrock. Bring any crafts, recipes or ideas for their use.

Scrapbooking fundraiser is March 11

LAKE TWP. − Area crafters are invited to a scrapbooking and card-making fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 11 at Grace United Church of Christ, 13275 Cleveland Ave. NW.

Advance registration is required, and space is limited. The $25-per-person registration fee includes the use of one eight-foot table per person for nine hours, snacks, a salad bar lunch, hourly door prize drawings, and the use of Cricut and Sizzix die-cutting and Cuttlebug embossing machines, 100-plus punches, and various stencils. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., with helpers available to unload vehicles and move supplies to your reserved table.

To register, call Sandie Sourwine at 330-472-6369. You may sign up as a group with family and friends, or come on your own. This fundraising event also includes a raffle for a variety of baskets. Raffle ticket holders do not need to be present to win. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and can be purchased anytime throughout the day March 11.

Women’s self-defense class offered

MASSILLON – The Stark County Sheriff’s Office will offer a free women’s self-defense program from 6 to 9 p.m. March 9 at the Stark County Sheriff’s Office Training Center, 143 First St. SE.

The program teaches participants situational awareness and safety strategies and techniques for reading body language, assertiveness and verbal skills. The class will be hands-on, and participants should dress appropriately. To register, visit https://starkcountysheriff.timetap.com/#/.

Program on women in baseball is Wednesday

MASSILLON – Kent State Stark associate professor Leslie Heaphy will present a program on the history of baseball from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Massillon Public Library auditorium, 208 Lincoln Way E.

Learn origami

MASSILLON − The Massillon Museum’s Do the Mu for Saturday will be Introduction to Origami.

Do the Mu is a free monthly drop-in, hands-on intergenerational outlet for creativity. Stop by the museum at 121 Lincoln Way E anytime between noon and 2 p.m. to join instructor Susan Scheetz.

Origami is a Japanese word meaning “paper folding.” Participants will learn the basic folds and notations used in origami and leave with several examples that they created themselves. 'Soul Food Junkies' is Brown Bag Lunch program

MASSILLON − The Massillon Museum's Brown Bag Lunch program from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. Tuesday will feature documentary filmmaker Byron Hurt presenting “Soul Food Junkies.” The program complements The Art and History of Soul Food, a student photography exhibition in the museum’s Fred F. Silk Community Room Gallery.

The Brown Bag Lunch series is free and open to everyone. Guests may bring lunch or purchase sandwiches, salad, and smoothies at Greatness Cafe in the museum lobby. The museum, 121 Lincoln Way E, provides free cookies and coffee to all attendees.

Massillon Lions Club sets annual show

MASSILLON − Massillon Lions Club will perform “At the Circus” for its annual show Friday and Saturday and March 10 and 11 at 7 p.m. and March 5 and 12 at 2 p.m. at the Lions Lincoln Theatre, 156 Lincoln Way E.

The live, family-friendly performances bring together local talent in support of the sight and hearing services that are a hallmark of the Massillon Lions Club. This show is the major fundraiser for the club each year.

Tickets, $10, are all general admission. Advance tickets may be purchased at Sweeper Mart, Buehler’s (Mayflower Location), Emmert’s Market, Friends and Family Credit Union (Downtown Massillon), Massillon Senior Center and Massillon Lions Club members. They may be purchased in advance online at online lionslincolntheatre.org until five hours before showtime, or at the box office beginning one hour before showtime, subject to availability. Ample free parking is available on adjacent streets.

Historical Society to meet

NAVARRE − The Navarre Bethlehem Township Historical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday (weather permitting) in the Heritage Education building, behind the Mathews Museum, 123 High St. NW.

Library to host inclusion fair

NORTH CANTON − The North Canton Public Library 185 N. Main St., will host an inclusion fair from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The fair will feature interactive stations to help attendees better understand the ways people with disabilities use different tools to walk, talk, see and hear. The event is open to all ages, but activities will be geared toward children 18 months to 12 years old with their families.

Attendees can:

  • Meet certified therapy dogs and learn how they help people.

  • Learn and play with adaptive toys that have been re-imagined so kids with disabilities can enjoy them.

  • Learn about speech-generating and augmentative and alternative communication devices that help people share their thoughts and feelings more easily.

  • Touch and feel Braille books and learn more about the Ohio Library for the Blind & Print Disabled.

  • Explore and try equipment like adaptive bikes and sports wheelchairs.

  • Meet local author Karina Bartow and author-illustrator Katie Mazeika.
