Mount Union Alliance Chorale
to present 'Starry Night' concert

ALLIANCE – The Mount Union Alliance Chorale’s Fall Concert, “A Starry Night,” will be at 3 p.m. Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. in Brush Performance Hall in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts on the university’s campus.

The concert will open with the women’s voices singing “Ad Astra” by Jacob Narverud. Composter Morten Lauridsen’s “Sure on this Shining Night” will be sung by the Chorale in full. “Rise Up, Shepherd and Follow” will be performed by the men of the Chorale, followed by favorite holiday selections, “Winter Wonderland” and “Carol of the Bells”, accompanied with handbells. Ola Gjeilo’s, “Northern Lights” will follow. Mount Union senior education major Benjamin Wykoff will conduct “Walkin’ Down the Road to Bethlehem” by Greg Gilpin. The concert will end with string ensembles accompanying the Chorale on “Winter Lullaby” by Pinkzebra and “Brightest and Best” arranged by Shawn Kirchner.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the University of Mount Union Box Office online at mountunion.edu/boxoffice, by phone at 330- 821-2565 or in person Monday through Friday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. when classes are in session and one hour prior to the start of the performance.

The Chorale is under the direction of Shawna K. Hinkle with collaborative artist Amy Haines. The Mount Union Alliance Chorale includes a combination of community members and University of Mount Union students and faculty. The chorale has performed together since 1982.

Crafters to meet at Rodman Library

ALLIANCE – Monday Maker crafters will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 in Rodman Public Library’s Main Auditorium. They will create a Christmas gift box made of felt and decorated with ribbon and watercolor holly leaves.

Maker Monday is an in-person craft program for adults that is held monthly on select Mondays. All materials are provided free, but space is limited, and registration is required for each session.

Library plans children’s events

CANAL FULTON – Canal Fulton Public Library will hold the following children’s events. Sign up for each by visiting the children’s department or calling 330-854-4148.

DIY Advent Calendars at 5 p.m. Thursday: Create your own advent calendar as a countdown to the holiday with craft tubes and wrapping paper. For grades K-5.

Holiday Paper Chain Challenge at 5 p.m. Dec. 9: Compete against yourself or friends during this friendly holiday challenge. Everyone will receive the same materials, and we'll see who can create the longest paper chain. For grades K-5.

Christmas Pajama Night from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14: Children will watch a few short Christmas movies, eat Christmas snacks and create a Christmas craft. For ages 3-12.

Noon Year’s Eve from 11 a.m. to noon Dec. 31: Join us for a New Year’s Eve celebration with toys, crafts, snacks and more.

Dine in the Street of Shops

CANTON – McKinley Presidential Library & Museum is offering a chance to dine in its historic Street of Shops on Dec. 17. Babcia’s Lunchbox will serve a holiday meal, and Cherry Road Winery and Aeonian Brewing Co. will provide wine and beer. Tables are available for groups of 2, 4 or 6 and must be booked together. The cost is $55 per person for your choice of entree and two alcoholic drinks. Appetizer and dessert included.

The menu will be a choice of the following: Pork tenderloin stuffed with spiced plum, smoked turkey with cranberry citrus chutney, or vegan stuffed cabbage with buckwheat and mushroom. For all, there will be individual charcuterie boards, potato and cheese pierogi, bourbon maple glazed roasted carrots, cauldo verde potato soup, and a salad of young greens. Dessert will also be provided.

Canton Woman's Club
sets Holiday Open House

CANTON – The Canton Woman's Club Holiday Open House will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. It is free and open to the public.

Tour the historic club, which is decorated for the holidays, at 822 Market Ave. N. Music will be by Kevin DiSimone and Hilary James, Bob Morrison and Club members. Enjoy free cookies and punch in the upstairs ballroom.

A holiday buffet dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. in the main dining room. Buffet menu: choice of Swiss steak or cranberry chicken plus salad, sides, roll and beverage. Country dances set Dec. 5, 12

CANTON – Canton Country Music announces the next dances at Nazir Grotto, 1717 Sixth St. SW: Dec. 5 with music by Kenny Eddy Band and Dec. 12 with music by Last Call Band. Doors open at 1 p.m., and music is from 2 to 5 p.m. Food and 50-50 drawing available. Admission is $3 at the door.

Celtic Rush concert at library

DOVER – The Dover Public Library will host a free Christmas concert by the popular Irish pub band Celtic Rush at 2 p.m. Saturday. Celtic Rush is a traditional Irish band whose members perform with various traditional and non-traditional instruments including fiddles, guitars, tin whistle, upright bass, mandolin and Irish drum. Their music includes Irish and Scottish jigs, reels, hornpipes, waltzes and polkas and certain selections. The group is well-known in northeast Ohio for their unique, lively sound, according to a news release.

Tree lighting in Hartville

HARTVILLE – An Evening in the Village will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Dec. 5 in downtown Hartville. The annual event includes wagon rides, children's crafts and activities, live music, open houses at downtown shops and a little Christmas magic.

The evening begins with Santa's arrival by firetruck and tree lighting in the square. As in years past, the tree will be designated a Remembrance Tree, and memory ornaments can be made and added at the event. Attendees can bid on silent auction items to benefit Love Our Community, a Lake Township nonprofit whose projects include the upcoming LOC Christmas event for underemployed families and Little Elk housing project.

There will be some COVID-19 modifications for this year’s festivities, including no cookie contest, no one-on-one visits with Santa, and activities moved outdoors. Individual shops may have different masking and occupancy requests as well.

Christmas walk

JACKSON TWP. – A Christmas walk featuring holiday lights will be 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 4 on Emerald Bay Avenue NW. Santa Claus and his elves will visit during that time, and there will be a photo booth. Candy canes and glow sticks will be available for all children who come. The event is open to the public.

'Deck the Hollow' at Quail Hollow Park

LAKE TWP. – “Deck the Hollow,” a lighted walk experience at Quail Hollow Park will be Dec. 3-5, 10-12, 17-19, from 5 to 9 p.m. The park grounds will feature decorated trees and holiday lights. Guest can take a self-guided tour of the historic Stewart Manor House, which will be decorated for the season.

The outdoor portion of Deck the Hollow will allow guests to take a stroll down Santa Lane to say hello to the Jolly One and get plenty of photos for the holiday. Guests may also get a glimpse of some of Stark Parks’ wildlife ambassadors. The Quails Nest Gift Shop will be open for shopping, and concessions will be available. This is an indoor/outdoor event, so dress for the weather.

Groups of 35 will be allowed to enter every 15 minutes to assure safe social distancing and time to enjoy the festivities. Pre-registration is required to ensure entry. Cost is $5 per person. Day-of cost $10 at the door. Register now at starkparks.com/deckthehollow.

Christmas Music Celebration
at Lions Lincoln Theatre

MASSILLON – Majestic Voice Chorus will present the 13th annual Christmas Music Celebration at Lions Lincoln Theatre on Saturday. Dancers from A Time to Dance will be featured.

There will be two shows: a partial show at 3 p.m. and a full show at 7:30 p.m. The 3 p.m. partial show is $15, and the 7:30 p.m. full show is $25. All seats reserved. Jimmy Fortune concert Dec. 5

Jimmy Fortune toured, sang and performed with the legendary Statler Brothers for 21 years. Jimmy and The Statler Brothers were inducted into the GMA (Gospel Music Association) Hall of Fame in 2007, and inducted into the CMA (Country Music Association) Hall of Fame in 2008. Jimmy, as a solo artist, was inducted into the Virginia Musical Hall of Fame in 2018. After The Statler Brothers retired in 2002, Jimmy launched a solo career to share new music with his fans.

Trivia contest Friday

MASSILLON – Join a live online trivia contest hosted by the Massillon Public Library via Zoom and the Kahoot! app from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday. This game is geared toward teens, but anyone is welcome to play. Participants will need to download Zoom and the Kahoot! app, which are both free. The topic for December is TV Sitcoms, and the winner will receive a prize.
