Artists' receptions, piano performance at Mount Union

ALLIANCE – The University of Mount Union will host an artist’s reception for the art exhibit “All That and More,” featuring works by Eranah Adorjan and Michelle Droll, in the Sally Otto Gallery from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday. The exhibit will run through Feb. 23.

A guest artist performance by pianist Timothy Ledger will be held at 3 p.m. Jan. 29 in Presser Recital Hall.

Works by Jack Thomas Hamilton are on display through May in an exhibit titled “Pencil and Paint” in the Beeghly Hall Galleries. An artist’s reception for Hamilton will be held in the Beeghly Hall Galleries from 4 to 6 p.m. April 20.

Donate holiday greeting cards for library project

ALLIANCE – The Friends of Rodman Public Library are accepting donations of holiday greeting cards to be turned into postcards and sold at the annual used book sale in August.

Wanted are the front of cards that have no writing on the back. Cards that are not fit to be turned into postcards will be used for a library craft project next year. Donations of Christmas cards can be placed on the book sale donation cart in the lobby of the Main Library, 215 E. Broadway St. For more information, call 330-821-2665.

Events for adults and teens at Canal Fulton library

CANAL FULTON – The Canal Fulton Public Library, 154 E. Market St., has announced the following events for adults and teens. For more information or to register, stop by the Information Desk, call 330-854-4148 or visit www.canalfultonlibrary.org.

  • 11 a.m. Saturday: Saturday Morning Cartoons and Crafts (for adults and teens) is filled with cartoons and some simple crafting. For ages 13 and up. Registration is required in advance.

  • 6 p.m. Jan. 30: Cricut Design Space Overview will help beginners learn their way around Cricut Design Space. Registration is required in advance.

  • 5:30 p.m. Jan. 31: Teen Pizza and Game Night is "For Teens Only.” Registration is appreciated, but not required.

Award Nominated Film Series at Palace Theatre

CANTON – The Canton Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N, continues its presentation of the year’s top award-nominated films during the 2023 Award Nominated Film Series.

“Top Gun: Maverick” will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $7, with tickets available at the door. The movie is rated PG-13.

McKinley Museum offers programs about animals

CANTON – The Wm. McKinley Presidential Library & Museum, 800 McKinley Monument Drive NW, has scheduled two presentations in February about animals.

A program about Groundhog Day will be 10 to 11 a.m. Feb. 4. Attendees will meet Terra, an education groundhog who is an ambassador for her species. Learn about the history of Groundhog Day and the natural history of groundhogs: large ground squirrels who excavate complex burrow systems, and are one of the only true hibernators in Ohio.

A program titled Turtle Parade will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Feb. 20. Attendees will meet box turtles and sliders and learn about these shelled reptiles and their "slow and steady" lifestyles. The program will include a presentation on the turtle species found in Ohio. All programs are included with regular museum admission.

Learn Canva at library

CANTON – The Stark County District Library, 715 Market Ave. N, will offer the free class Introduction to Canva from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the main library Innovation Center.

Canva is a free graphic design tool that allows you to create professional content on your own.

Concert featuring ‘80s tunes is Feb. 4

CANTON – The Amazing ‘80s featuring Jeans ‘N Classics, a nostalgic evening of classic tunes from the 1980s, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4 in Umstattd Hall at McKinley High School, 2331 17th St. NW.

The concert will feature the music of Tears for Fears, The Bangles, George Michael, Prince, Heart, Bananarama, The B-52s and Cindy Lauper.

Swiss steak dinner Friday

JACKSON TWP. − Real Hope Church, 7641 Wales Ave. NW, will have a Swiss steak dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. The meal will be Swiss steak and onions, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, roll, dessert and beverage. Carryout available.

All profits go to community outreach projects and ministries. Price for the meal is adults $10, children (12 and younger) $5, ages 2 and younger free. Real Hope Church, between Portage and Strausser streets, is handicapped accessible through the north entrance.

GiGi’s Playhouse receives grant

JACKSON TWP. – GiGi’s Playhouse, a Down syndrome achievement center at 4061 Bradley Circle NW, has been awarded a Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Lifesaving Equipment Grant of $1,536 for a HeartSine Samaritan automated external defibrillator and accessories.

The grant is part of more than $71 million given by Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to public safety organizations across the U.S.

“We are extremely grateful to Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and our local Firehouse Subs in Canton for providing us with this grant and positively impacting our community,” said Megan Vance, site manager. “We are so grateful to be given the tools needed to continue to keep the participants of GiGi’s Playhouse Canton safe and protected.”

Coffee with a Cop event Tuesday

LOUISVILLE – The Stark County Sheriff's Office’s next Coffee with a Cop event will be at 8 a.m. Tuesday at McDonald's, 219 N. Chapel St.

The Coffee with a Cop program is designed to provide an opportunity for community members to learn more about the Sheriff’s Office. The community can ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know the Sheriff's Office members better. The Coffee with a Cop program is a national initiative.

Massillon Museum offers Tots 'n' Pots Class

MASSILLON – Massillon Museum will offer a Tots 'n' Pots class from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Jan 29. Children ages 3-8 are invited to make their own clay masterpieces. Registration is now open. The Massillon Museum’s ceramics studio is located in the former Chamber of Commerce office at the corner of Lincoln Way E and City Hall Street. It is accessed through the museum’s main entrance at 121 Lincoln Way E.

Find craft materials, learn Google Docs

MASSILLON – Massillon Public Library, 208 Lincoln Way E, will hold a Craft Closet Open House from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The library’s craft closet is overflowing and the public is invited to come to the Main Library Auditorium to see what you can make and take, from greeting cards to heart garlands and everything in between. The library will offer the class Google Docs Essentials from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the main library auditorium. Participants will learn how to create and format basic documents using Google Docs, a free, web-based word processor.
