The Starlight Ranch announced at a news conference that it is holding a two-day music festival to support the Perryton Disaster Relief Fund on July 15 and 16.

More than 400 homes and 92 businesses were lost in the tornado's destructive path in Perryton.

Bobby Lee, co-owner of the Starlight Ranch and Big Texan, spoke about the two-day festival, called Pickin' for Perryton, which will go to help disaster relief victims.

“We are honored to be able to provide this event for Interstate Bank,” Lee said. “When they said that 100% of the money raised from the event goes directly to Perryton, we jumped on board like a duck on a June bug.”

“The fun part of this event is that you get both days for $25 with over 12 area bands coming in, with Michael Martin Murphy as the headliner on Sunday and Jason Williams, a Jerry Lee Lewis Tribute act, on Saturday,” Lee said. “It’s a fun day for the entire family, with 100% of the money going to Perryton.”

Lee said that his memories of Perryton go back to his high school football days, taking the two-hour trek from Amarillo.

“The opportunity when presented to me to give 100% of the money from this event was too much to pass up,” Lee said. “I said sign me up. This is a family event that will have so many opportunities to have fun, with great music for everyone in the family.”

Lee said that he is so excited to get Grammy award winner Michael Martin Murphy to headline his event. A friend of Lee’s told Murphy about the event, and Murphy called him personally to say that he would do the show at no cost to raise money for the fund.

Interstate Bank, which originated in Perryton in 1958, worked with the community to create the Ochiltree United Way Fund to assist tornado victims in the area. Danny Skarda, Chief Executive Officer of Interstate Bank, spoke about the mission of the fund to help the community.

“A lot of thanks go to the Big Texan and the Lee family for their generosity in putting on such an event to help those people that have been through such a devastating disaster,” Skarda said. “Many families lost all they had. We are all about the community. The town and the people have united like no other community that I have been affiliated with."

Skarda said that all funds from the event will go to help those affected by this disaster to help with necessary items to be replaced, as well as financial assistance toward rebuilding. He said that he appreciates all the help that has been provided to the Perryton community and sees financial help as the most critical in helping the community at this time.

All money raised will be directed to United Way of Perryton, which will work directly with a local committee to vet needs and allocate money to those most impacted.

To donate to the fund, individuals can go to either the Amarillo or Perryton location and ask about the fund. The Amarillo Branch is located at 5085 S. Coulter St., and the Perryton Branch is located at 301 S. Main St.
