Stars align for InterPlanetary Festival

Oct. 21—When will we need a theory of intelligence? Will space limit human performance? Such questions likely don't bubble up to the fore of most people's consciousness, but both are titles of panel discussions at the Santa Fe Institute InterPlanetary Festival (Saturday, Oct. 22, through Sunday, Oct. 23).

InterPlanetary bills itself as seeking a whole-planet project — beyond borders, politics, and economics — to activate the world's collective intelligence. Other planned discussions are Complex Conceptions of Time, Life and its Objects, and the Complex Space of Political Economies. The film Ikarie XB-1 screens at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, followed by a screening of Colossus: The Forbin Project at 7:45 p.m. Sunday. Planetary scientist Carolyn Porco will deliver the keynote address, Cassini to Saturn: The Journey, the Legacy, the Future, at 5 p.m. Sunday. Seating is limited to 350 people. All programming will be streamed via interplanetaryfest.org, and outdoor activities are open to all.
