Stars of the Day: Bumila leads Bristol-Plymouth boys basketball to win

TAUNTON — It was a close one, but the Bristol-Plymouth boys came out with the win.

The Craftsmen defeated Blue Hills 66-64 at home in Mayflower League action to improve to 5-5 on the season and 1-1 in the MAC Large division.

Junior guard Tucker Bumila led the way for B-P with 27 points and 15 rebounds, while seniors Josiah Joyce and Paul Marshall both had 12 points, with Joyce hitting a game-winning three-pointer with a second left on the clock. Senior Jordan Bruno had nine points, two of which came on a late dunk to bring the Craftsmen within a point of the Warriors, and 12 rebounds.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bridgewater-Raynham 49, St. Mary's 44

The Trojans scored a big non-league win as they defeated the Spartans to improve to 7-2 on the season.

Sophomore Natalia Hall-Rosa led the way for B-R with 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals while senior Dana Possick had 14 points and four rebounds.

Blue Hills 59, Bristol-Plymouth 43

The Lady Craftsmen fell to the Warriors in MAC action and are now 3-8 on the season.

Senior Megan Faria led the way for B-P with 22 points, four assists and four steals, while junior Kaylee Baker had eight points and nine rebounds.

HOCKEY

Franklin 7, Taunton 1

The Tigers fell to the Panthers in Hockomock League action at the Aleixo Arena and are now 2-5-1.

Sophomore forward Conner Goranson scored the lone goal, assisted by senior forward Nathan Fernandes. Freshman goalie Cam Tomaszycki made 41 saves in net for Taunton.

Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth 3, Diman 1

The Hawks beat the Bengals in MAC action at the Raynham IcePlex to improve to 5-1 on the season and remain undefeated in league play.

Freshman forward Cam Wilbur scored two goals while junior Bobby Manning added another. Senior goalie Ryan LeBaron made 23 saves in net for the co-op.

Dartmouth 5, Bridgewater-Raynham 2

The Trojans fell to the Indians in Southeastern Conference action on the road at the Hetland Arena and are now 3-8-1 on the season.

Senior defenseman Shane Breslin and sophomore forward Ryan McInnis both scored for B-R while junior goalie Richie Popson made eight saves in net.

WRESTLING

Taunton 72, Keefe Tech 9

The Tigers had a dominant non-league win on the road against the Broncos to improve to 11-4 on the season.

Ryan Jones (113), Christian Balmain (152), John Mandeville (160), Peter Ye (195) and Logan Frank (220) all pinned their opponents to win their respective matches.

BOYS SWIMMING

Taunton 43, King Philip 29

The Tigers earned their first win of the season in Hockomock action at home against the Warriors and are now 1-2 overall.

Timothy Luc finished first in both the 200 meter individual medley and the 100 meter freestyle, recording a South Sectionals qualifying time in the latter, while Brady Callahan finished first in both the 50 meter freestyle and 100 meter backstroke, in which he recorded a South Sectional qualifying time. Keenan Daley finished first in the 200 meter freestyle while David Luc finished first and recorded a Division I States qualifying time in the 100 meter butterfly and also finished first in the 100 meter breaststroke.

The relay team of both Lucs, Callahan and Daley finished first in both the 200 and 400 meter free relays.

GIRLS SWIMMING

King Philip 63, Taunton 17

The Tigers fell to the Warriors at home in Hockomock action and are now 0-3 on the season.

Tiffany Ye finished second in both the 200 meter individual medley and 500 meter freestyle, while Mila Dafov, Rachel Maynard, Megan Viveiros and Kayla Parret all earned points for the Tigers.

The relay team of Ye, Parret, Dafov and Bradley finished third in both the 200 meter medley and 200 meter freestyle.
