Stars of the Day: Geas and Beese dominate on the mat for Aquidneck Island Wrestling co-op

Logan Geas and Andrew Beese each earned a pair of wins that enabled the Middletown/Rogers/Portsmouth co-op wrestling team to earn a split of its tri-match on Wednesday night.

Geas and Beese came through for the Middletown/Rogers/Portsmouth co-op squad enabling it to split a tri match on Wednesday in Warwick. Geas pinned his 138-pound South Kingstown foe in 55 seconds and Beese earned a match-clinching 12-5 decision in his 152-pound bout as Aquidneck Island Wrestling edged the Rebels 39-36. Both AIW wrestlers recorded falls against their Toll Gate opponents but the Titans accepted 30 points worth of forfeit victories as they downed the co-op team 54-19.

Gonsalves, a freshman guard, went 3-for-4 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the free throw line to finish with nine points as the Islanders cruised past Central 57-31 on Wednesday in Providence. Middletown climbed to 8-6 in Division III with four regular-season games left, all against teams above them in the standings.

Bay View led after each of the first three quarters and just managed to hold on at the end as the Bengals edged Rogers 31-30 on Wednesday in a key Division I game in East Providence. The Rogers defense did its job and held Bay View to 11 second-half points but the offense couldn’t produce enough to overtake the hosts. Cherry finished with a game-high 10 points and Margolis scored nine as Rogers dipped to 8-7 in league play while the Bengals went to 10-5.
