“Colby was on his absolute ‘A’ game last night,” Portsmouth coach Shaun Horgan told The Daily News on Friday. “He lit up the track in the 55. He won the 300 out of the unseeded section, (which is) tough to do without kids to race against.

“But his succession of jumps to end the long jump — 22-6 and 22-8 — were a joy to watch. That's his main event, and it's been a long road to get to this point. He's going into the championship meets in very good shape. Colby is jumping at the Millrose Games on Saturday in New York City.”

Kluth won the 600 with a time of 1:25.27 seconds, and also prevailed in the 1,000 (2:38.57) and the 3,000 (9:00.80).

“Kaden's performance was incredible,” Horgan said. “The 3,000, 600, and 1,000 is a very tough triple, especially with the amount of talent in our division. But he wasn't going to accept anything less than a win in each event, and he pulled it off. It was pretty special to watch. He has a gift for sure. He could have run through a brick wall for us last night.”

Luis Betancourt, Rogers boys track

Betancourt proved he was the best 55-meter hurdler in the division as he won the event with a time of 8.46 seconds while also placing third in the long jump as the Vikings finished in fourth place out of nine teams in the Southern Division championship meet Thursday in Providence.
