Kaden Kluth, Portsmouth boys track

Kluth wrapped up his impressive career with a runner-up finish in the 800 meters at the state championship meet at Brown University on Saturday. He was edged by St. Raphael runner Darius Kipyego, though both runners eclipsed the meet’s previous best time. Kluth hit the tape in 1 minute, 51.49 seconds, just behind Kipyego’s time of 1:51.32.

Kluth also teamed with Jeff Brady, Tom McGraw and Aiden Chen for a second-place finish in the 4x400 relay, helping the Patriots take 12th as a team.

Kordell Tate-O'Brien, Rogers boys track

Wednesday's stars

Luke Del Deo and Aaron DeGala, Tiverton boys tennis

The seniors were still on the court when the match ended as top-seeded Mount St. Charles eliminated No. 4 Tiverton from the Division II playoffs via a 4-0 decision Wednesday.

Del Deo at No. 1 singles was leading in the second set after dropping the opening set, and DeGala at No. 3 singles had lost a first-set tiebreaker. The Tigers ended the season with a 12-4 overall mark.

"Our seniors will be hard to replace, Luke Del Deo, Aaron DeGala, Toby Harrison, Kyle Sousa and Chace Cirillo," said Tigers coach Bill Phillips. "These guys are really hard-working student-athletes and fun to coach — a really fun season!!!"

Campbell won the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet flat in leading the Vikings to a third-place finish at the junior varsity state championship meet Wednesday at Bishop Hendricken High School.

Aiden Chen, Portsmouth boys track

Tuesday's stars

Jason Potvin, Tiverton baseball

The junior pitcher was lights out Tuesday as he fired his second straight no-hitter to lead Tiverton to a 3-0 Division II playoff win over host Mount St. Charles.

Potvin, who tossed a five-inning no-hitter the last game he pitched, needed just 84 pitches to set down the Mounties. He struck out 12 and walked just one in the seven-inning contest. He also doubled home an insurance run in the seventh inning and scored on a passed ball.

Tiverton will play another single-elimination round game Friday when it travels to take on top-seeded Westerly.
