Stars of the Day: Santos sets Taunton boys basketball scoring record

TAUNTON — It was a night for the record books for Taunton’s Trent Santos.

The star senior scored a program-record 46 points to help lead the Tigers to an 86-56 win over Oliver Ames in Hockomock League action to improve to 7-1 on the season.

Santos hit 11 three-pointers and scored 25 points in the first half alone as he became only the fifth player to score 40 or more points in a game since coach Charlie Dacey took the helm in the 1989-90 season.

Sophomore Troy Santos scored 15 points for Taunton while seniors Faisal Mass and Tristan Herry had 11 and six respectively.

Westport 80, Bristol-Plymouth 58

The Craftsmen fell to the Wildcats on the road in Mayflower League action and are now 4-4 on the season.

Junior Tucker Bumila led the way for B-P with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while senior Paul Marshall scored 15 and senior Jordan Bruno had 10.

Dighton-Rehoboth 44, Apponequet 41

The Falcons beat the Lakers in South Coast Conference action at home to improve to 6-2 on the season.

Ryan Ouellette led the way for D-R with 14 points while Kyle Mello scored 12.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Oliver Ames 84, Taunton 44

The Tigers fell to the Hockomock’s other Tigers on the road and are now 1-8 on the season.

Junior Kameron St. Pierre led Taunton with 17 points while senior Abby Souza scored 14 and sophomore Cali Melo had nine.

Dighton-Rehoboth 46, Apponequet 38

The Falcons earned an SCC win on the road against the Lakers to improve to 4-5 overall.

Junior Ella Damon led D-R with 21 points while sophomore Lucy Latour had 10.

WRESTLING

Bristol-Plymouth 42, Bristol Aggie 36

The Craftsmen defeated the Chieftains in MAC action to improve to 15-2 on the season

Patrick Sullivan (106), Evan Kelleher (113), Isaiah Aaron Jr. (132), Austin MacArthur (138), Chris Morse (152), Cody Reed (170) and Donovan Ludovina (220) all won their respective matches via a pin.

BOYS SWIMMING

Bridgewater-Raynham 97, Durfee 77

The Trojans took down the Hilltoppers on the road in Southeast Conference action to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Jack Werb finished first in both the 200 meter individual medley and the 100 meter backstroke while Cam Hogg won the 100 meter butterfly and 100 meter breaststroke and Dan Keefe won diving.

The relay team of Werb, Hogg, Cooper Hammond and Cole Bridges won both the 200 meter medley and 400 meter freestyle.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Bridgewater-Raynham 105, Durfee 78

The Trojans defeated the Hilltoppers in SEC action to improve to 3-0 overall.

Jessie McNeil finished first in both the 50 meter freestyle and 100 meter breaststroke, earning state qualifying times in both, while Lily Martin won the 200 meter freestyle and 100 meter butterfly and Kiley George won the 100 meter backstroke.

The relay team of George, McNeil, Martin and Eva Chaves won both the 200 meter medley and 200 meter freestyle while the relay team of Abby Szumita, Samantha Bean, Madison Maltby and Emma Lavigne took home top honors in the 400 meter freestyle.
