STARS OF THE DAY: Teresa Remy turns in top all-around gymnastics score for Islanders

Teresa Remy, Middletown gymnastics
Remy posted the highest all-around score Sunday during a four-team meet at the Newport County YMCA. She finished with a 34.7, including top scores on the floor exercise (8.95) and beam (8.9) and tied for the top score on bars (8.25).
Rowan Snyder, Portsmouth gymnastics
With an all-around score of 34.45, Snyder was the top performer for the Patriots, who defeated Middletown, Barrington and the Rogers/East Providence co-operative team in a quad-meet Sunday at the Newport County YMCA. Snyder's highest score came on the floor exercise, where she notched an 8.85.
Ava Reise, Rogers gymnastics
Reise vied in three of four disciplines with a top score of 7.75 on vault as the Rogers/East Providence cooperative team placed second in a four-team meet at the Newport YMCA on Sunday. The previous day, Reis jumped in last minute for an injured teammate on vault and came through with a 7.5 score.
Steve Madden, Portsmouth hockey
Madden’s power-play goal 48 seconds into the final period pulled the Patriots within a goal of Lincoln, but Portsmouth couldn’t score again as the Lions added an empty-net tally to secure a 3-1 win Sunday at Portsmouth Abbey School.
Saturday's stars
Jordan Burnley, Portsmouth gymnastics
Burnley turned in an all-around score of 34.45 in leading the Patriots to wins over Mount Hope, Middletown and the Rogers/East Providence co-operative team on Saturday at the Newport County YMCA. Burnley had a 9.0 on the floor and an 8.9 on vault as part of her overall score.
Joe Rocco, Portsmouth hockey
For the third time in four games, Portsmouth dropped a 2-1 decision. This time it was against North Kingstown at Boss Arena on Saturday. Rocco netted the only goal for the Patriots off an assist from Aidan Toner.
Nata Sama, Tiverton boys basketball
Trailing by two with under a minute left, Sama and Luke Del Deo each hit a pair of free throws to put Tiverton ahead 44-42 against host Toll Gate on Saturday. The Titans' last-second 3-point attempt to win the game was off the mark, and Sama grabbed the rebound, fell to the ground, kept his dribble and was able to hold possession until the final whistle.
The forward finished with six points, 10 rebounds and three assists as the Tigers won their first game of the season.
Kaden Kluth, Portsmouth boys track
Kluth cruised a win in the 1,000 meters on Saturday at the World Trophy Invitational meet in Providence. His time of 2 minutes, 32.74 seconds was 21 ticks faster than the second-place finisher.
Addison Mau, Portsmouth girls track
Just a freshman, Mau won the 1,500 meters, beating out three teammates, at the World Trophy Invitational on Saturday in Providence. She recorded a time of 5 minutes, 42.89 seconds to best fellow Gabby Sparks, Maria Chytka and Katie Yalanis.
Friday's stars
Kaitlin Roche, Portsmouth basketball
Roche scored 12 points, latched onto five rebounds and had two steals but host Portsmouth could not prevail as it bowed to LaSalle 50-40 on Friday in a Division I game.
Maeve Crowley, Rogers basketball
Crowley scored 16 of her 24 points in the second half and also had nine rebounds as the Vikings overcame a slow start and defeated host Woonsocket 50-27 on Friday to move to 9-0 in Division II.
Ben Connerton, Middletown basketball
The host Islanders got off to a fast start, led by 20 points at halftime and cruised to a 66-39 win over Cranston West behind 18 points from Connerton on Friday.
Calvin Lucenti, Portsmouth boys basketball
Lucenti put up 20 points, the most of any scorer, but the Patriots dropped a 56-50 decision to Narragansett on Friday night.
Elijah Neal, Rogers boys basketball
Neal netted a game-high 14 points, and the Vikings got it done at the defensive end, grinding out a 46-6-43 win over visiting Burrillville on Friday night.
Thursday's stars
Jason Potvin, Tiverton boys basketball
Potvin scored all seven of his points in the second half, grabbed 10 rebounds and had three steals and two blocked shots as the host Tigers nearly won their first game of the season before falling to Falmouth 50-46 in overtime Thursday in a nonleague contest.
Izayah King, Rogers boys basketball
King led four players in doubles figures, tallying a game-high 28 points, and snared 15 rebounds as the host Vikings easily dispatched Toll Gate 70-43 on Thursday night to climb to 6-1 in the Division II standings.
Corrine Pelletier, Rogers girls track
Pelletier was a double-winner against Central and Mount Hope as she captured the shot put with a toss of 28 feet, 7 inches and the weight throw with a heave of 36-4. The Vikings topped the Knights and lost to the Huskies in a Dwyer Division dual meet in Providence on Thursday.
Kitty Damon, Portsmouth girls track
The Portsmouth senior won the 600 meters with a time of 1 minute, 46.04 seconds, but it was the lone victory the Patriots could muster as they fell to North Kingstown and Classical in the final Headley Division dual meet of the season Thursday in Providence.
Brynn Palmer, Rogers girls swimming
Palmer won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 backstroke as the Vikings lost to Cranston West 52-36 on Thursday at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport.
Nick Bodycoat, Rogers boys swimming
Bodycoat took the 200-yard freestyle and combined with Matt Mullins, Ryan Barnett and Patrick Bryan to win the 200 freestyle relay for the Vikings, who bowed to Cranston West 60-18 on Thursday in Newport.
Will Alves and Kyle Bielawa, Portsmouth freshman boys basketball
Alves had four points, nine rebounds and eight assists in Portsmouth’s 62-34 win over Woonsocket on Thursday. Bielawa stayed red hot as he scored 34 points. Through the past two games he’s 14-for-16 from the 3-point line and shooting 80 percent from the floor overall while averaging 28 points.
Jack Casey and Jack Clarke, Portsmouth Middle School boys basketball
Casey tallied nine points and Clarke scored six as the host Patriots downed Tiverton 51-22 on Thursday. A couple of days earlier, Portsmouth stopped rival Gaudet 43-25 behind 14 points from Drew Herren.
Wednesday's stars
Elizabeth Margolis, Rogers girls basketball
Margolis scored eight points and snagged a game-best 17 rebounds as the host Vikings downed West Warwick 49-24 to move to 8-0 in Division II.
Mia DeSantis, Middletown girls basketball
The senior captain sank two 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 19 points as the host Islanders cruised to a 50-23 win over Blackstone Valley Prep on Wednesday night to elevate their Division III record to 6-1.

Darian Piker, Rogers boys basketball
The senior guard drained six 3-poiners, went 5-for-6 from the free throw line and finished with a game-high 25 points as the Vikings toppled host Tiverton 81-37 in a Division II game Tuesday.
Patrick Cranson, Middletown boys basketball
The freshman showed he could put up numbers in a varsity game the same way he’s been doing for the JV team. Cranson tallied a team-high 14 points in the Islanders' 57-50 road loss to Coventry on Tuesday.

Hurd scored 31 points, including 23 in the second half, and made all 10 of his free throws as Portsmouth defeated Woonsocket 76-67 for its third straight Division I victory. The Patriots climbed over the .500 mark with a 4-3 record.
Tristan White, Tiverton boys basketball
White scored six points in each half and was the lone Tiverton player to make it into double figures in scoring as the Tigers fell to Rogers 81-37 on Wednesday.
Emily Maiato, Portsmouth girls basketball
Maiato scored a team-high 16 points — half of them from the free throw line — but the Patriots saw their three-game winning streak come to an end with a 67-51 Division I setback to Bay View in East Providence on Tuesday night.

King was a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay quartet, the victorious 200 freestyle relay group and also captured the 100 butterfly as the Islanders defeated Tolman 57-14 on Tuesday at the Newport County YMCA.

Chacon won the 200-yard individual medley, the 100 freestyle and combined with three teammates to take the 200 freestyle relay as host Middletown topped Tolman 53-20 on Tuesday at the Newport County YMCA.

The junior center scored 13 points, had seven rebounds and made four free throws in the final quarter as Rogers outscored host Westerly 10-2 down the stretch to break a tie and beat the Bulldogs 41-33 on Monday to remain unbeaten (7-0) in Division II.

Ney made six 3-pointers, including five in the second half, as the Islanders erased a halftime deficit and moved past host Burrillville 49-43 on Monday to push their Division III record to 5-1.

Lopes notch a hat trick and assisted on two Keaton O’Shea goals for the Rogers/Middletown/Rocky Hill co-op hockey team, which beat the PCD/Wheeler/St. Raphael squad 7-2 on Monday.
Yoehan Rudecindo and Luis Betancourt, Rogers boys track
Rudecindo was tops in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches, and Betancourt captured the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.56 seconds. As a team, though, the Vikings (6-3) fell to North Kingstown and South Kingstown on Monday in the final Southern Division dual meet of the season.
Colby Fahrney, Portsmouth boys track
On Monday in Providence, Fahrney won the long jump with a bound of 21 feet, captured the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.79 seconds and teamed with Tom McGraw, Owen Malone and Jack Cianciolo to take the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:38.08.
His efforts helped Portsmouth beat Prout and Chariho to close the Southern Division dual meet season with an 8-1 record and in a three-way tie for first place.
Francesca Goldman, Middletown JV girls basketball
Goldman speared a second-half comeback as she made four 3-pointers and poured in a game-high 16 points as the Islanders scored a 28-26 win over host Burrillville on Monday.
Kyle Bielawa, Portsmouth freshman boys basketball
In a holiday matinee, Bielawa finished with 21 points and six assists as Portsmouth drubbed North Kingstown 60-28 on Monday to improve to 3-1 in league play. Bielawa drained six 3-pointers and went 6-for-8 from the field as part of his scoring output.
