Starting 5: New HS basketball coaches, LouCity wins Dallas Cup, teams honor shooting victims
The teams that represent the city spent much of last week remembering the victims of last Monday's shooting at Old National Bank in downtown Louisville and honoring first responders. U of L baseball hosted Bellarmine and Wake Forest for "Heroes Week," while the Louisville softball team draped shirts and left flowers at five seats — in honor of the five people who were killed during the mass shooting — in the stands against Miami (Ohio) on Friday.
Louisville City FC and Racing Louisville FC hosted a blood drive with the Kentucky Blood Center on Saturday at Lynn Family Stadium.

Around the city: Brandon Anderson new Central High boys basketball coach
There were a number of high school basketball coaches hired around the city over the last week:
Brandon Anderson was named the Central High boys basketball coach. He replaces longtime coach Doug Bibby, who stepped down at the end of the 2022-23 season to return home to Richmond, Virginia.
Moore announced it has hired Patrick McGee as its permanent boys basketball coach. McGee took over for Richard Gatewood during last season after Gatewood was arrested on second degree assault and strangulation charges in February.
Butler hired Candyce Wheeler as its new girls basketball coach. Wheeler replaces Demarcus Avery, who served as interim coach following Lakesha Perry's departure prior to the start of the 2022-23 season.
