State agency branches will consolidate in 'One Stop' Sioux Falls location in the future

State government services in Sioux Falls will one day be condensed into a single facility, though the timeline for that plan isn't yet clear.

That consolidation includes the Department of Social Services, currently located where the city's proposed Riverline District would sit. The state put forth a Request for Proposals in September last year for a "multi-agency leased office space," referred to as "Sioux Falls One Stop."

A dozen agencies, or at least their Sioux Falls branches, would move both public-facing and administrative functions into the building, including the Department of Health, the Department of Labor and Regulation and the Department of Social Services.

While the RFP states the project would need to be completed by June 1, 2024, an attached Q&A form says the date is negotiable. Additionally, Special Projects Coordinator Leah Haugan said in an email a timeline for the agencies to actually relocate to the facility has not been established.

The "One Stop" model has been used in Rapid City since late 2022, and the state's website shows that one is planned for Pierre as well.

City officials and leaders announced the proposed Riverline District earlier this year, and obtained purchase agreements for land near 10th Street and Cliff Avenue, including where DSS is currently located.
